I am really sick of the anti-Gardasil Crap

It seems to me that the big argument about why its bad is cause its from Merck. Well what the dummies in GD and Health don't seem to realize is that Merck manufactures it in the US, yes, but licensed it originally from the Australian scientist who invented it back in the 1990s.
Here's what pisses me off though..My LAB (not just my company mind you but MY LAB) helped run and test the efficacy and safety of the vaccine in the clinical trials done on it. My company has a sterling reputation with how it conducts its clinical trials..When a problem occurs they are right on it. A recent very large clinical trial was halted (even before the FDA asked us to) because of an irregular MRI on one patient. ONE patient. On a HUGE project.
Same group worked on the HPV vaccine. So for some unknown reason I get irritated when I hear that the makers of Gardasil are "greedy fuckers who don't give a damn about children". For some reason I think my colleagues would find that annoying too.

2. I think that the reason a lot of people are so against the vaccine...

or one of the reasons, anyway, is because Merck lobbied so hard to get it mandated. Personally, I don't think that we are justified in saying that it needs to be mandated. In any event, I think that hostility bleeds over into questions about efficacy and safety.

it allows states to pay for it for those who are on Medicaid. I don't know if that varies by state law, but that was the reason for seeking the mandate in Texas. Otherwise, it would only be available to those with insurance and those who could afford to pay for it.

Many of which are mandatory. You do know that HPV is endemic in the population and the more people who get the vaccine the less likely it will circulate..Its an particulary evil STD in that most men have it and don't know it and TRANSMIT it to others.
And I'm not complaining about mandation or no mandation (though as a common STD I think its good to have as many vaccinated as possible for herd immunity)
I'm talking about the junk science being posted over and over again on DU..You post makes a good case..You don't seem to understand that its no different from any vaccine..BTW, most common side effect of Gardasil is redness at the injection point.
As I have stated over and over...riding in a car is more dangerous than getting a vaccine.

I see it as a true medical problem. No one should be dying from a vaccination. But you know how much a large corporation such as Merck cares about its patients. :eyes:

No medical treatment is 100% effective. The small pox vaccine (which I have had twice) has a much higher death rate than gardasil. Would you rather have small pox back in the population? I doubt it.
Plus there are people with autoimmune and other UNDISCOVERED health issues that shouldn't get vaccines.
To demand a vaccine be 100% safe is ridiculous and never gonna happen.

As for Merck..I've worked with their scientists from time to time and I would say YES the scientists do care about people. Otherwise why would Merck be lending its scientists to a NIH group making a vaccine for Malaria that would ELIMINATE DRUGS THAT THEY SELL...
And thats why its WRONG to stereotype these corps as soulless and evil..The everyday people who do the gruntwork and science are extremely dedicated and hardworking and caring people. I should know. I've worked with them.
But its much easier to just say teh pharmas are evul!
Why is racism not okay, but prejudice/stereotyping agaisnt ANYONE who works in the biopharma industry okay?

I don't trust corporations, I think all the government is corrupt too, therefore no scientist can be trusted. Global Warming is a myth/Evolution is a lie/Medical Researchers are all after profit and therefore not to be trusted.
If you are gonna be anti-science, go the entire way! Its hypocritical to believe in global warming and evolution pushed by scientists who work for teh government! and NOT believe in medical science--many researchers who work for non profits or the government--OR those who have found (like me) that the BETTER science is actually in private industry.
