Teh JOOS did it!
I suppose it was only a matter of time since Lehman was founded by Jewish immigrants that we got blamed for the global economic crisis...

Conspiracy theory faults Jews for Lehman Brothers' collapse

By Anshel Pfeffer

A new anti-Semitic conspiracy theory has been spreading online over the last few days, claiming that on the eve of Lehman Brothers' collapse last month, the firm transferred $400 billion to Israel.

The theory, which comes in the form of a news report, has already been distributed on dozens of anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli sites. It alleges that senior Jewish officials at the Lehman Brothers investment bank passed their clients' money on to three Israeli banks, with the intention of then escaping to Israel to enjoy the take without fear of extradition.

Well, we now can add the global economic crisis to starting all the wars AND sinking the titanic...:eyes: Oy Vey...

3. I stand by my assertion that it's funnier if you spell it "Jooz"
Honestly, though; if teh Jooz were the evul fiscal masterminds that they're credited to be, then they'd have sent the $400bn AND gotten a chunk of the $700bn. Bankrupting Lehman Brothers right before the huge payoff hardly seems consistent with their reputation for boundless avarice.

13. Are they still trying to get that to stick in GD?
I think the established Conspiroids should get three strikes for posting their garbage in the main forums. After that, they should only be allowed to post in the dungeon.

They are just as fanatical as the freeper fundies who make everything about their god.

I was having a chat about horse racing with a friend in the Sports forum and apparantly there are conspiracy stories about whether the newly retired Big Brown was actually hurt or was just afraid to meet another horse Curlin in the Breeders Cup....

Sorry, this story will take some time...as usual, sigh...

A friend in Los Angeles is the son of a Jewish leather craftsman who was in the Czech Army when WWII broke out. He survived several death camps. His family did not.

His wife was a German Jew who survived Auschwitz, but all of her immediate family were wiped out.

The met in a Displaced Persons camp after WWII. I heard my friend's dad tell this story several times and I never got tired of it. His future wife was running around in the camp bare-footed. So he scrounged some leather scraps and made her a pair of shoes.

But that's not the story I really wanted to tell...

Flash forward to their new life in Los Angeles, where the husband has his own shop and realized the American Dream.

One day a customer brought in a pair of penny loafers, with pennies in them. He made a big deal of taking the pennies out of the loafers, implying of course that the cheap Jew would steal the two pennies.

My friend's dad returned his shoes with a nice, shiny dime inserted in each shoe.

(The mother once tried to watch the mini-series "Holocaust." But after watching for a few minutes she got up and left the room, saying: "Kinderspiel!" (Child's play).

20. Some things never change.
Fortunately, explicit antisemitism is not quite as generally respectable as it once was. Unfortunately, the Internet has produced plenty of antisemitic sites for the gullible to click on - my favourite site name is "Extraterrestrial Jews", which I presume is about how we own all the banks on Mars too.

It seems to be sort of on-topic, which is fairly rare for me...

Rome and Jerusalem: The Clash of Ancient Civilizations by Martin Goodman

http://www.amazon.com/Rome-Jerusalem-Clash-Ancient-Civilizations/dp/0375411852

Things like this make me realize how little I have accomplished (from the Amazon review):

Martin Goodman is professor of Jewish studies at Oxford and has the unique distinction of having edited both the Journal of Roman Studies and the Journal of Jewish Studies.

Anyhow, for a quick Idiot's Review of the book: absolutely fascinating for a History Geek.

Prepare for some surprises, since Goodman spends a lot of time showing the similarities between ancient Roman and Jewish culture.

Just today I was reading a section where a Roman Emperor noted this, in an edict that said Jews were to be left alone. Translated into my own Modern Idiot English, it basically said: "Just like us Romans, the Jews have holy places, purification rituals and sacrifices. They do everything we do with one minor exception--their temple does not have any images of their god. Leave them alone or face the consequences."

This changed later, when the invasion of Judea and destruction of the Temple became important as POLITICAL talking points for later and lesser Roman emperors.

The more things change, the more they stay the...etc.

This is a sharp contrast to some of the Xian websites I visit, with their potted histories of Judea.

Somewhere out there, a Xian website said Pontius Pilate had a deep respect for the Jewish culture. And he showed this respect because he minted coins with Roman pagan symbols on the obverse and Jewish religious symbols on the reverse.

Well, that made my jaw drop. I don't know a lot about the subject, but I do know that mixing pagan and Jewish symbols was anything but "respectful." It would have been seen as a deliberate insult.

Goodman quotes a letter cited by Philo of Alexandria, from Agrippa II, about that flaming liberal Pontius Pilate: "He is vindictive, with a furious temper."

Goodman relies heavily on the writings of Flavius Josephus, but FOR ONCE, he warns that Josephus often contradicts himself, and much of his writing needs to be taken with a grain of salt about the size of the Biblical Mrs. Lot.

OK, that's enough, I've had a long hard day here in Egypt and need a drink or five before posting any more...
