Indigo
A du poster:

"It's too bad that unwell people use the "indigo" label as a crutch
I'm an indigo, and I wouldn't dream of flying off the handle in a discussion forum (or anywhere else, for that matter). Just wanted to say that not all indigos are like that. :hi:"

Well, since it's all self-diagnosed bullshit, I don't think you can claim anything of the kind...

1. Wow
How conceited do you have to be to not only label yourself as indigo (the next evolutionary step in humankind), but claim you're better than other indigos?

8. I'm paper
That beats rock!

Where will this end? Once everywoo was claiming their brats were indigo, it wasn't special enough any more (wikipedia says that the originator of the term claims that 97% of kids under ten are indigo), so crystal children had to be invented. I wonder what's next?

Perhaps we should push the theory that indigosity is caused by vaccines.

12. 97% ???
Edited on Tue Oct-28-08 01:59 PM by onager
Does that apply to kids all over the world, or just Americans? Here in Egypt, nearly 50% of the population is under 14. (About the same as Afghanistan when the Taliban took over. But I try not to think about that.)

I guess the poor kids I see doing hard manual labor all over Alexandria must be Advanced Indigos. They don't need school or anything. Already out helping support the family.

Then there's the Egyptian Demon Child. Maybe she's Indigo.

She doesn't act possessed or anything. In fact, she seems like a perfectly pleasant little girl, about 9 years old, I would guess.

But she seems to just pop up out of nowhere, almost every time I'm walking to the neighborhood grocery store. She walks along beside me, grinning and chattering away in Arabic and occasionally pointing at me.

I just nod and smile, since I only speak a little Arabic. For all I know, I could be agreeing to marry her older sister next Thursday.

Recently I was out of the immediate neighborhood, walking back from my favorite Chinese restaurant. Sure enough, up popped the Demon Child, this time towing her unwilling and annoyed little brother along. I guess she was on a Mission From Mom. She just smiled and waved and kept going. Probably to vanish into the Aether a few feet away...

18. wtf do you even do in egypt?
You keep describing it as this weird little place, but I don't think I've ever seen you say what you do.

It better be something awesome, like consulting with local governments on children's health issues.

Or extra super awesome, like laying the groundwork for the local resistance in preparation of Saudi Arabia's impending secret invasion.

Thanks, I needed that. Yes, that's what I'm doing. Weird Note: during the 1956 Suez Crisis, the Egyptian government sent trucks arounnd the country, throwing out crates of Russian weapons and ammunition. Mostly SKS semi-automatic rifles and AK-47s. Every once in a while, I still see Egyptian farmers carrying those guns out in the villages. I pass thru a whole string of farm villages twice a day, on my commute.

Those villages are also home to at least fifteen 1955 Chevies and a few Fords of similar vintage. And one bright-blue 1949 Chevy that is still used every day as a local taxi. And lots of goofy vintage Russian farm tractors.

What I do is pretty mundane. I'm a Field Engineer for a big aerospace company. That mostly means computer geekery, maintaining equipment, etc. etc.

21. that's cool, I almost chose aerospace engineering as a career
until I found out that the first twenty years of my career would consist of designing backup toilet pumps on airliners, and the second twenty years would consist of designing backup door handles for cargo planes.

must be weird-- do you think any of those old rifles even work? AK's are legendary for outlasting anything, but 50 years of being dragged around a dusty farm might do one in.

23. I often wonder myself.
And not just about the farmers' guns.

I often see soldiers and police here carrying AK-47s so old that the wooden stocks are split, or the barrels visibly bent and metal parts rusty. They are mostly on guard duty at checkpoints, so those weapons are just for show anyway.

OTOH, the weapons of the Riot Police are always in top condition. (Pump shotguns and H&K automatic rifles, mostly.)

And occasionally, I see a guy in a natty suit whose jacket moves the right way, exposing the small H&K copy of the Uzi on his belt. Those are in good condition, too. That's either the "intelligence service" (secret police), or one of the special Tourist Police units that guard foreigners.

Turns out they came with seafarers to Australia just a few thousand years ago: http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/plantsanimals/TheDingo.htm

Oohh, indigo. Meh. Made up as a spectral colour for hocus pocus reasons then, made up for self-indulgent hocus pocus reasons now.

22. Indigo?
And what in the hell is an indigo. I gather from reading the replies that it has to do with the next step in human evolution? It astonishes me that anyone could think that a new strata in human evolution has taken place when 50% of this nation is poised to elect an angry delusional nursing home reject and a mentally challenged moose in lipstick. :puke:
