Just curious about a term.
Have any of you come across the phrase 'S/Delta response pattern'?

It sounds like something that I *ought* to have heard of, either in respectable psychology/neuroscience or woo circles, but it's totally unfamiliar to me, and google isn't helping.

1. Not woo
As far as I know anyways.Don't recal hearing the term before.

For some reason vector analysis pops to mind.

3. Didn't seem to be that..
though an EEG on the poster might have given interesting results!

It was someone who entered another forum to talk incoherent garble, of which the only comprehensible part was that he didn't accept the story of the 'purported Holocaust', as it was 'before his time' and he 'didn't trust the History Channel'. He then went on to say that it was no longer an excuse for inappropriate behaviour, and then that 'Behavior is always an S/Delta response pattern'. The posts were deleted but IIRC there was quite a lot about our all being fellow astronauts and human beans, and about apologists running naked through the woods. VERY bizarre. I think he has since been banned.

5. maybe the poster thinks its a word
The person sounds like they have some mental problems..I can easily see someone like that using a term that they think is real.

7. I think it's a psychology term...
to describe a type of stimulus in behavioural conditioning.

"S-delta A stimulus that precedes a behavior and is present only if extinction will occur for that behavior."
http://www.wadsworth.com/cgi-wadsworth/course_products_wp.pl?fid=M35&product_isbn_issn=053459994X&&altname=Glossary&&resource_id=10&chapter_number=0

" Stimulus Control
Reinforcement rarely occurs in a vacuum; there are usually a variety of other stimuli (antecedent conditions) that precede the behavior and the delivery of reinforcement. A discriminative stimulus (SD) signals that reinforcement will be presented pending display of a particular behavior. A delta stimulus (Sdelta), on the other hand, indicates that no reinforcement will be forthcoming. Two clowning school children signal reinforcement to each other, hence the teacher who seats them on opposite sides of the room is exercising stimulus control. So likewise are counselors who suggest to overspending clients that they destroy their credit cards and carry only limited amounts of cash when shopping. "

Not sure what it really means, tho. I have to admit that I slept through most of first year psych. :)

8. Thanks a lot.; I am sure I learned about this myself...
but the particular term had gone out of my memory; and the fine details of stimulus-response theory get far less emphasis in British psychology courses nowadays than 20 or 30 years ago, so had evidently suffered some *extinction* in my case.

However, it still doesn't shed a lot of light on Mr. Bizarre's comments!
