4. yeh that's what I thought
BBC kept going on and on about it. Some black dude or something...meh. ;)

I had never seen Al Jazeera in real life but our hotel in Phuket had BBC and Al Jazeera as its news stations....it was funny hearing about Obama's swearing in as "hopefully an end to Imperialistic American Empire" ha ha ha

3. It was Bee-you-tea-ful
THe weather was superb and the people were fantastic and now i'm an Evangelical for Thailand. We just got back today and I think I've told around 40,000 random people that they must visit Thailand. I feel like it's a life duty or something. It was the best place I've ever been.

I totally missed the Inaguration...but I did see clips on BBC News and stuff. The vow took place at some ridiculous hour in Bangkok and I was either getting drunk, or sleeping off the cheap beer when it happened....I think my blood alcohol level rested at a comfortable .08 the entire time.

Then we spent the last 5 days in phuket, and island to the south of Bangkok. I fed bananas to fish and rode an elephant!!!

Watch for pictures one day when i've not been awake for 50 hours!!!11!! omg! wtf! lol!

12. Jealous!!!
A buddy of mine is a big Muay Thai dude and has been a bajillion times and loves to tease me with his "I've been a bajillion times" stuff. If he wasn't able to break me in half, I'd kick him in the nards and run away.

Sounds like you had a fantastic time!!

14. Naw.
He's actually a little nerdy...and seems so damned YOUNG!
My favorite line from him on why he likes to go to meetups.."Its so nice to get a chance to talk to people who aren't COMPLAINING about something.."

5. I bin meanin to talk to you...
Hope you had a good trip, glad you're safe..

But, ever since you posted that serendipity thing, the tumeric thing keeps coming up. Everytime I open one of my 14 cookbooks to find ANY recipe, guess what, tumeric is in the recipe the book opens to. I go to the store to buy some spices, and the tumeric can pulsates and glows..

I am a card-carrying woo and feel that you are into some sort of black magic...this tumeric attack on me is deliberate and unwarranted. Please make it go away.

8. I love Tumeric
it's great in Curries. Get an indian cook book and make up some Channa Masala (chickpeas and curry) or Mattar Panneer.

When we were in Thailand we took a thai cooking class and used turmeric root in the curry paste. When I get more awake later I post some recipes that are easy and tasty and use Tumeric.

Watch out, though, it makes your fingers turn yellow, and everyone will be knowing that you be making the masala :)

well, not a lot has happened. Unless you count the little fact that a certain country seems to be under new management!

Glad you enjoyed Thailand!

11. oh but the bugs didn't taste bad PICTURES (not gruesome i don't think)
The grasshoppers/crickets were deep fried and just tasted like crunch. There wasn't goo (my biggest fear). And the worms/bees/moths were chewy but not gooey either. They weren't as "good" as the crickets. I almost died eating it, though. You have to spit out their legs/wings (grasshoppers) because otherwise they scratch your throat.

here are the things that I don't know if they were bees or silkworms or moths

more cricket

me and my lady friends :)

Good to hear from you again, though. Sounds like you had a great time.

How I Almost Made It To Thailand, Dammit...

When I worked in Saudi Arabia, I planned for months to go to Thailand. When vacation time was near, I went down to the American Consulate in Jeddah to get some information.

"Hi, I'd like to go to Thailand!"

Consulate-Lady looked at me like I had just grown another head. "Don't you listen to the news?"

Well, I thought, WTF does that have to do with going to Thailand? And the answer is "no," since the Saudi govt. runs all media and it's usually not worth the trouble.

"Saudi Arabia has broken off all diplomatic relations with Thailand. Right now, nobody can go to Thailand from Saudi Arabia." She helpfully handed over an English-language newspaper.

Upset by the treatment of Thai guest workers (a/k/a "slaves") in Saudi Arabia, the Thais had expressed their displeasure by storming the Saudi embassy in Bangkok and shooting two diplomats.

I guess the Saudi embassy's "Complaints" line was too long.

Well, someone had to say it. It's like making jokes about Dr. Who and the Garlics.

Hmmmm, I guess you missed the ocean, or at least your plane did. Talk about shitty piloting - the ocean is like twenty times the size of the earth (I read that in the health forum) and they still manage to miss it. :eyes:

And yet the gubbint still claims they could hit something as small as a tower with planes, rather than holographic nukes made of ORBES!!!!

21. Wait, what on earth is that that you are holding in that picture?
And yes, I see those orbes. However, the fact that people consider stuff like that 'evidence for ghosts' upsets me, so I ignore them.

Have you tried the new mind-closer 5000? Works wonders when you are trying to shut your eevil mind off from the twoof.

can you tell me the correct way to pronounce "Phuket"?

I've tried saying it phonetically, but I keep getting strange looks.
