"Smokers don't have a higher rate of cancer"
Someone ACTUALLY posted that on DU. I *thought* that people pretty much knew that it causes lung cancer, tounge cancer, throat cancer ect. Hell its even on cigarette packages. And no this person wasn't even referring to second hand smoke! Thinks smoking causes cancer is an "urban legend". Holy fuck.

2. I have a "friend" who told me that!
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 12:26 PM by JitterbugPerfume
She has had several cancers-liver, throat, colon, and she actually told me that her Dr told her it has nothing to do with the two pack a day habit she has had at least since she was seventeen, when I first met her . We are both in our late 60s now.

I can't go to her house it is so smelly . The odor hits you in the face as soon as you open the door.

Yes, you read it right, she said her Dr told her that cancer has no connection to smoking , and I was suppose to believe her.

I can't even talk to her anymore without wanting to slap her,

but she is so unhealthy and cancer ridden that I pity her, and I am afraid someone will call me any day and tell me dhe is dead.

7. Funny thing
When I took Chantix my insurance wouldn't cover it. I was shocked! And no I'm not making that up. I guess if you die of cancer by 50 it's cheaper for them than living to your 70's or 80's.

10. Indeed!

When I was just a youngster, in the 1950's, the lady next door smoked like a chimney. There was far less media in those days so the message that it gave you lung cancer was slow getting to her. When it did, she would then accompany each cigarette with the declaration that "...these are gonna kill me!". She died in her late 60's from lung cancer.

'Wishful thinking' for sure.

It works both ways even if you don't want to admit it. Just ask me.

12. Thats right.
Its not the Tobacco companies fault--its the old lady for believing those silly scientists. For that matter why should you care about for profit health care since everyone is capable of making themselves well. We apparantly don't need doctors or health care. So why do you even comment here? More hypocrisy.
