Fuck Dateline NBC and their yellow/tabloid journalism
They are interviewing Andrew Wakefield tonight..:puke:. Just in time for vaccination season AND with mandatory vaccinations maybe necessary this fall with H1N1 they are gonna scare everyone and bring all the anti-vax nuts out of hiding. Yeah I'm sure it will be balanced NOT...5 minutes of other doctors who aren't crackpots and the martyr Wakefield defending himself agaisnt teh evil Big Pharma and its evil scientists. I'm sure the loonies will be loving this here..:banghead:

5. Did anybody see this?
It was my understanding they had a good representation of non-vaccination conspiracy theorists on. Whether or not the program presented sound science I have no idea. I looked for it online in the usual places but didn't find it. Dateline doesn't exactly appeal to the tastes of the average internet pirate (aka 14 year old boys).

6. I couldn't bring myself to watch
as for actual science, I think they had a letter at the end stating that vaccinations are safe non of this is proven blah blah blah. Don't believe that had any real scientists on. Just the nutter.

7. I doubt they'll bring up the way he's been sued in the UK
and pretty much disgraced over there. I just wish there was a way to put somebody that irresponsible into prison.

Anything to save the insurance industry the few bucks it costs for the vaccination!

8. what made it worse
was that they were promoting it as having him discuss vaccine safety in the US! He really has the most nazi-like ethics of any health care professional I have ever heard about.

9. Orac gives Dateline the smackdown
It was as bad as we thought it'd be. Crikey. Just look at what they titled the show.
"A Dose of Controversy": More like a dose of equivocation

...Actually, if you want to get a feel for how this whole episode was done, there was the infuriating manner in which Lauer interviewed Deer. For example, he asked Deer, "In your opinion how much was Wakefield paid?" as though the number Deer came up with was, as Asimov so famously said about a "theory," something Deer had "dreamt up after being out drunk all night."...
