I got my influenza vaccine today.
In case I turn sweet and non-sarcastic, I wanted you all to know whom to blame. My arm! My arm! It.....doesn't hurt or anything!

maybe I was cheated and they just poked me and didn't inject anything?

7. I have to wait until the third week of the month (that's when the flu vac clinic is being held)
I can't wait until I turn autistic though and get my super powers. Sure, it didn't happen last year but I'm sure this is the one. My astrologer told me so.

8. I reacted to the shot this year with aches and pains
but the shot wasn't sore at all. You see, I insist on getting it in my rear end, a bigger muscle that doesn't tend to knot up and hurt, not even after tetanus--the worst.

The shot was given by a very nice lady named Ms. Arafat and wearing a hijab.

It's that kind of neighborhood.

Which means I've been officially dead for about 14 days, I reckon.

When I was in Egypt, I used to drop by a rural hospital fairly often. My Egyptian driver picked up his prescriptions at the place.

One day we ended up in, I guess, Pediatrics. Long line of people with sick kids and babies. Since a few men were in line, the Muslim world seems to follow one rule of the West: whichever parent is available takes the kid to the doctor.

Now if I were a Fox News listener - or similarly, had my brain replaced with a small cabbage - I might have freaked out.

Argh! American male surrounded by Muslim women? Won't I get beheaded or stoned to death or something?

What happened? Well, nothing. One woman asked me to hold her baby girl. My driver said this was a Big Honor, though I still suspect they were conning me and Mom just wanted a break. The baby behaved herself and didn't leave any deposits.

Scientific Experiment: Egyptian tots react just like American ones to fish-faces and belly-rubs.

Later the driver told me some of the women thought I was a visiting American doctor, and were cracking ribald jokes about examinations. The Wife Of Bath, alive and well in rural Egypt. Who'd a thunk it?

On the way out I met a nice young fellow who waved his hands around my head. Turned out to be the village Imam, and the hand-waving was a Muslim blessing.

Argh again! I'm a Fundamentalist Atheist, and now I was stuck with Allah-Cooties! But I recovered nicely, and my lack of faith is still intact.

13. My flu shot was given by a pharmacist wearing a hijab
with a name tag that said Arafat. So if I'm not dead yet, your odds are pretty damned good.

I live in that kind of neighborhood, and yes, the veiled ladies do have a very ribald sense of humor.

(I can see that trusting your kid to a foreign devil and an infidel could be an honor, though. Think about trusting a kid to Stupid. Remember how whenever he'd touch a baby, it would start to scream in alarm?)
