Just The Facts
1. Every loosely science based channel airs multiple shows where people search for ghosts.
2. They all share one flaw.
3. Ghosts are not fucking real.

Overview
TV shows where a group of people search for ghosts are freaking everywhere. Despite there being a slightly different twist to each one, and them being aired on multiple networks, they all follow roughly the same format.

The typical show of this variety "casts" a group of "trained" "professionals" to "investigate" locations that have "reputations" for being "haunted".* These investigations are recorded mostly on hand held cameras operated by the cast members, cut and edited down to an hour long episode, then aired on any network that is somewhat science based.

*Possibly the most sarcastic quotes that have ever been required in one sentance. And yes, they are required"

1. "Trained" "Professionals"

Oh yes indeedy. The two "trained" "profesionals" on Ghost Hunters worked for Roto-Rooter. Some viewers even complained about all the product placements, saying the show looked like one long Roto-Rooter commercial.

I was thinking about this over the weekend, because I was channel-surfing and hit that reality show about lottery winners.

One winner sunk much of his lottery winnings into producing his own movie. A documentary about...yes, ghosts and hauntings.

The narrator mentioned that the producer had to go out and hire "a team of professional paranormal researchers."

Maybe the show's editor is a Skeptical Saboteur. Because that description was read over a clip from the film showing some woman throwing a very fake-looking Ghost Conniption - wailing like a banshee, doubled over, etc. "I HEAR SOMETHING..."

Oh, and the producer premiered his movie for a knowledgable, skeptical panel of hard-nosed critics: middle-school students.

2. I love cracked

as a kid, I was more of a Mad Magazine girl, bought every issue, would scour flea markets and yard sales for old copies...ahh, the good old days. Was never really a fan of Cracked.

However...

as an adult...

Mad magazine sucks. I got a free issue a couple of years ago and it was...sad. It's like seeing the Monkees at the Holiday Inn. :( (note, I'm 33 so my memories of the Monkees are re-runs on MTV in 1986, so I have sadness by proxy in that regard).

Cracked rocks. HOw funny that Cracked and The Onion are more "on top of it" as far as news and opinion and the "pulse of America" than "real" news. BTW "I" get $1 every time "I" use a pair of "quotes". Wooo woo "more" money for me "!"
