Our (Science-Based Medicine's) Visit with NCCAM

It amuses me when I link to SBM, because the reply from many is: "It's just a blog." Well, it looks like this "just a blog" (written by MD's, PhDs, etc...) is having a minor effect, at least in terms of discussing possible improvement in government funded research for CAM (er, scam) therapies.

How many "just a blogs" have gotten that far?

1. "It's just a blog."
But this former GeoCities page that hawks supplements and warns against the dangers of amalgam is a valid source, dammit!

2. i really think its time
for people to get over the real/not real media divide. Or, rather, they should stop placing that divide between the internet and tv/radio. We are long past ignoring websites as information sources. "anyone with a blog" is not media. But you know who is? "anyone with a well-written, well-researched blog that has thousands of regular readers and a history of quality fact checking and corrections"

3. S'alright
We're getting there with plenty of help from the "professional" media.

Not that some haven't already, but if blogs never rise to "pro" quality, FOXCNNMSNBC routinely pass them on their way to the basement. People know outfits like TPM hold to a standard of quality the chumps have no regard for anymore.

Keep shovelling the lurid poot, Rupert. It'll be fun watching you lose your shirt when you put your clownshow behind subscriber firewalls this summer.

4. Indeed.
The spectrum of quality is just as wide for blogs as it is for MSM and even alternative media.
