It was a premier, so there will be kinks to work out, but Phil makes a great host/VO guy. They did a good job of explaining the "blowing things up" parts of the show. They didn't dwell on the explosion, but rather just did it, then explained what it entailed, without spending 15 minutes talking it up (like Mythbusters sometimes does)
There was a little too much fear-mongering for my taste; well, that's not fair, not fear mongering, but he didn't really talk about the concept of probability and the fact that just because there was an extinction-level asteroid hit 65 million years ago doesn't mean we're "due for one now" or something like that.
On the other hand, one of his big issues is being prepared to defend against asteroid hits, whether it's 20 years from now or 200. So I understand his wanting to dwell on that aspect a little bit.
All in all, a good start. I hope they stick with it.
