Finally saw the
controversial movie "Creation," on the Showtime On Demand channel.
What a great movie! And I say that in spite of its obvious handicaps - no car chases, no automatic weapons, and some flesh-eating but not by zombies.
With a Certified Atheist playing Charles Darwin (Paul Bettany), and a BIG surprise as Mrs. Darwin (Jennifer Connelly). Made from excellent source material; it's based on the book
Annie's Box: Charles Darwin, his Daughter, and Human Evolution by Randal Keynes - a great-great grandson of Charles Darwin.
Made in 2009, the movie - prepare for a shock - had a hard time finding an American distributor. You can read about that in a DU thread linked below.
I wouldn't want to give anything away for those who haven't seen it. Well, just one thing - a great scene where Thomas Huxley thumps Darwin on the back and says: "You've killed God! And I say good riddance to the vindictive old bugger!"
But when I really want the straight scoop, I head straight for MovieGuide.com. Which in fact, is the "Xian Movie Guide:"
Very strong humanist, pro-evolution, Anti-Christian worldview about Charles Darwin writing his racist tract THE ORIGIN OF SPECIES...
In addition, CREATION uses fallacious “straw men” arguments by crudely depicting the Christians in its story as closed minded, cruel people.Excuse the interruption, but that's utter crap. Among the Xians depicted very favorably are Darwin's local clergyman. Oh, and Darwin's own WIFE! And the assclown who wrote that clearly doesn't know what a straw man is. Maybe he hangs around the R/T forum....?
Another failure is the movie’s neglect to tell viewers that Darwin’s wife was actually a Unitarian. Unitarian beliefs are actually anti-Christian, unbiblical, and heretical, but they were widespread in England and parts of America at the time Darwin lived. Thus, in one sense, it was weakness in Emma’s own faith to begin with that led her to marry Darwin in the first place and eventually accept his false theory...
CREATION is a beautifully made, poignant movie that is very emotionally moving....:wow:
The fact that the movie is so well done is what makes it very dangerous. Manure, nicely wrapped with a bow, is still manure. A lie that there is no God and that somehow we have randomly shown up here on Earth as an accident is still a lie, even if it’s well written and acted.http://www.movieguide.org/reviews/movie/creation.htmlDU thread about the movie not finding a US distributor:
