James Randi: "Keep your eyes open and think for yourselves"
14:00 pm | Antonio Martinez Ron | David G. Tesouro

The magician James Randi has been one of the stars invited to Neuromagic, the magicians and neuroscience convention this week in the island of San Simón in Vigo, to study the "tricks of the mind." At 82 years, the "amazing" Randi is still the scourge of media scammers who try to pass off as paranormal as nothing more than mere trickery.

1. Who will follow in Randi's footsteps?
There's really no one with the same amount of name recognition or fame. Maybe Penn & Teller?

3. Love Penn & Teller
But Penn's strong libertarian views irk me.

4. Hopefully not P&T
Their Libertarian ideology allows too much BS to fly under their radars.

But I think you have to remember that Randi didn't have much nationwide name recognition until fairly late in his career and after he split from CSICOP. JREF didn't even exist until 1996.

I think there are a number of younger skeptics up and coming who could fill Randi's shoes in time although none of them have the experience of being stage magicians which provided Randi with a unique perspective. Phil Plait, Dan Loxton and Ben Radford are just three that come to mind. DJ Grothe is also a logical choice since he's currently the JREF president but I'm not sure if he wants to be that much of a public figure. I wouldn't rule out Adam Savage either, once he gets tired of blowing things up.
