3. I completed the survey...

I monitor clinical trials for the Pharma companies, mostly oncology trials with some endocrinology thrown in for fun. I guess that makes me one of the evil ones here at DU.

Several years ago I was given an investigation al product (IP) that was in clinical trials for re-labeling but I did not meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria but my orthopedic doc was the lead PI. My health insurance company would not have paid for the injections because it was off label so the company approved a "compassionate use" for me and I received the IP (already FDA approved for other indication) which saved me about $5,000. The IP delayed by shoulder replacement surgery (age related issue) which was the goal at the time. Go figure that a pharma company has any compassion. Of course I see compassion a lot with the pharma companies but that would be heresy for some on DU.

I do believe the some of the pharma companies have some ethical issues but they are not totally evil. There is some good in the industry.

5. I've said this before I think

But the most callous, unethical people I ever met in my 15 years of work were in ACADEMIA/GOVT (NIH) not the private Pharmaceutical industry. Not that there weren't really wonderful people at NIH, because there were but this Pharmas are all evil unethical people is a total crock of shit. I would say the corporate/marketing people are closer to that stereotype but even there almost everyone I know actually cares about helping people. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Almost no one goes into this bitch of an career for the money. Its too difficult.
Even some of the not so nice places I've worked have managed to put out good product even if they treated their employees like shit.

6. I had a clinical site at the NIH...

for a Pharma study. It was one of the worst sites I have ever been to, even worse than MD Anderson in Houston, TX and Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio. The protocol was a guideline to the staff at the NIH despite the Principal Investigator signing the Form FDA 1572. There were subjects on the study who were also participating in other studies which was a protocol violation (inclusion/exclusion criteria). The NIH Principal Investigator I was working with didn't care nor did his staff. I have never monitored a trial at NIH since and that goes for MD Anderson and OSU Cancer Center.

Of the three site I have listed OSU is the worst. I would not send a dead rat there for treatment.
