I recently was given a book of Australian children's chants and rhymes, 'All Right Vegemite', compiled by June Factor. A lot of the rhymes were very familiar to me from my English childhood; but there were one or two unfamiliar ones. I thought this one just about summed up the whole principle of evolutionary adaptation - and indeed of some of the biggest problems in medicine:
If you build a better mousetrap And put it in your house, Before long Mother Nature Will build a better mouse.
The Australian playgrounds also produced one of the best summaries I've seen of the principles of right-libertarianism:
Australia is a free land, Free without a doubt. If you haven't any dinner, Then you're free to go without.
