"If a person's death is convenient for a group with opposing political views, that person's death was most likely a homicide."

2. But there's the Wellstone Corollary |
|
If a strong progressive dies in an accident, some progressives will assume it was a Republican hit job. The only thing I can think of as an example for the reverse would be when Republicans get caught in sex scandals - then Republicans assume it was a "librul media smear job."

3. OK, I'll admit to being somebody that thinks there was something fishy about Wellstone's death |
|
Maybe because he was my senator and he was beloved, but the whole thing just seems FISHY.

4. An air accident at a time when one vote could change the balance of power... |
|
Assassination in past centuries happened all the time. People have not changed, so why do we assume present day powerful interests are above that?

5. Actually that is the sort of CT that isn't ALWAYS nutty |
|
Certainly people take it too far; e.g. there was someone on a rather crazy pseudo-progressive website once, who claimed that John Kerry had arranged the plane crashes of John Heinz (so that he could marry Heinz's rich widow) and John Tower (no clear motivation given).
But political assassinations aren't uncommon; and there are certainly parts of the world where accidents seem to happen rather often to outspoken opposition figures and/or their family members.
