What's the very first FPS game you played?
Mine was a game called "Marathon" made by Bungie. (Halo) It was a FPS for the Mac. That was back in 1994, before i made the switch to PC. Very fun game!

34. same here, way back when too, as you.
played it for 4 hours, was later on then motion sick for 8... ugh. even to this day i cannot play FPS games because of the motion sickness. very weird because i could probably live on rollercoasters, rapid spinning mini-rides, and the Revolution (a big boat ride that goes rocking forward and back, and then finally upside-down a few times). heck, reading in the car doesn't bother me. i love airplane rides, and i think air turbulence is the highlight of a plane trip. leave me on a dinky ferry boat and i'm a happy clam, riding the waves. and yet FPS games render me green and plastered on the couch.

36. Make sure the refresh rate is at something like 72hz
or above if you use a CRT monitor. That might help.

3. Doom, of course
But the first one I really, really got into was System Shock 2.

I only play FPS on the PC. Can't beat that mouse/keyboard combo for FPS.

5. Doom 2, followed by castle wolfenstein 3d, then doom 1.
Edited on Wed Nov-17-04 03:31 PM by Worst Username Ever
Been hooked since. Duke Nulem 3d, Quake, Quake 2, then UT tournament (the original. don't like '03 or '04). Oh and can't forget Perfect Dark for the N64 and Goldeneye. I still play UT at least weekly. ever play Red Faction? Kind of lame but still fun. Serious Sam ROCKS. MOAAA is great plus the new Wolfenstein. Right now I am addicted to Halo 2.

on a Commodore 64 without a manual.

That game was tough to figure out without the manual.

23. Did yours shriek whenever you walked into a wall?
We couldn't determine if the walls were electrified, or if it was a glitch in the programming. That shriek was annoying as hell, though.

Ah, the golden age of computer gaming. Back when we all had high scores on Pong, and remembered them.

The first, and the best IMO. I still say if Marathon had come out on the PC instead of the Mac it'd be the FPS everyone talks about instead of that crap-ass Doom.

14. The original MOH on PS1.
that game had some great features that I dont understand why they arent present in today's MOH or other FPS...

you throw a grenade and the nazis will try to throw it back. if there are alot of them, one guy will 'sacrifice' himself and cover up the grenade, only killing him. If you threw a grenade at a dog, he would pick it up and take it back to his master, OR he would take it to you.

15. Doom
Way fun. We even used to have an IPX over POTS that we'd run in the background that allowed us to play multiplayer Doom via a local BBS...pre-Internet deathmatches :) We also used to have Doom lan parties where you'd bring your PC in, grab an ISA coax NE2000 card and a Lantastic boot floppy from a pile, and network your DOS machine in two minutes (in those days 14400 baud modems were hot properties and it was very rare for a home user to have his own network card).

Ah, to relive the days when my only goal in life was to squeeze an extra 5 megahertz out of my 486 DX/25:freak:

Nothing like turning an opponent into a chicken. Also assembling a super weapon for your character...I wonder why there weren't more of these types of games?

22. First FPS: Doom
I remember seeing Doom for the first time and wondering "what the hell is this?" The first first-person game I actually saw was Ultima Underworld (or was it Underground) and thinking that was really neat.

Favorite (I have four):
System Shock 2 (Scariest game I've ever played)
Deus Ex (Massive scope and flexibility in playstyle)
Half-Life (Enemies with exceptional AI)
Half-Life 2 (Not surprising, but this game is in-freaking-credible. Character animations and lip-synching is perfect, and the effects are magnificent. Even runs good on lower systems.)

24. Doom
...and that was the end of me. :D Actually I remember seeing the older students at school playing the original Castle Wolfenstein and wanted to play it. Than my room mate got a copy of Doom - and it was fragfest allnighters during weekends. Since than, I went to Marathon (all 3 series), Hexan, Descent, and now it's CoD. I'm doomed.

Used to play it all the time. Then in highschool, we played it during internet class, you know...to pass the time. Not really impressed with the latest FPS though. I think Halo is overrated, haven't played Halo 2 though so it might be better but not from what I hear on the Xbox forums.

It was awesome.
