2. Prey for PC just arrived today....

and I just got my spirit thing going. I'll tell you - it's one of the best opening sequences yet. No spoilers, you have to see it to know what I mean.

I have been playing FEAR multiplayer at night, and I've gotten pretty good. Getting compliments from the top clan members is pretty cool. I still consider myself a newb at PC gaming, but they don't know that. My kid thinks I rock as well!

Interesting open-ended massively-multiplayer 3D world/environment, similar to There.com, that allows you to design, build and/or script your own content to which you retain the intellectual property rights. Or you can just use it as a fancy chatroom.

There are many subcultures in SL now including Goths, Elves, Goreans, Steampunks and Furries, though they usually tend to congregate in certain areas (sims) of the world that feature their respective themes.

Several people earn their real-life income selling their well-designed virtual products to other players for game money (Lindens, which can be bought or sold for real money).

Basic membership is free, with no expiration date or time limit as of this writing.

I just finished the (unbelievably short) main quest. My character was at level 28. Now that I actually know what I'm doing as far as character builds go, I'm going to do as many quests as possible, not including the Mage's Guild quests. For some reason, I'm not being allowed to return the amulet to the woman who runs the Guild in Leyawiin, so I'm just going to skip the whole thing. I just want access to the Arcane University.

Have you talked to both women? I mean both the guild head and her attendant. I think you need to talk with both before you can give the amulet back. I recall having a similar problem and that was the solution.

Besides Oblivion, I am also playing Condemned: Criminal Origins, which is really a good thriller/horror game with good gameplay, a good story and voice acting. pretty engrossing.

Recently I had been playing Call of Duty 2 and The Suffering as well.

I ended up spending a couple bucks on the Frostcrag Spire add-on, which gives you the same enchanting and spellmaking possibilities, as well as a place to make potions (at a +15 bonus to alchemy!) and a bunch of other goodies. Well worth the $2 IMO.

I was working mainly on getting my character up in the mage guild. Finally got access to the Arcane University and made rank of Evoker. But seems everywhere I go there is an Oblivion Gate opened up now. So started working on the main quest to get it said and done....ugh I hate those gates :D


Agree with the Frostcrag Spire add on. That place is amazing and well worth the $2 IMHO.

My trick: Just before grabbing the Sigil Stone, save the game. Now grab the stone and check out which stone you have. If you don't like it return to saved spot and try again. Fave stones: increase strength, and increase magicka. Those stones grant 5pts above most other stones when enhancing stuff. Nerd that I am I have an excellent suit of armor which allows me to carry a substantial amount of loot, retain a high amount of magicka, and a helm which lights my way all because of those Sigil Stones.

(That said, a good invisibility spell and 100 poisoned arrows can turn those Oblivian Gates your personal easter egg hunt)

20. Paintings are hard to get.

I have several paintings, but it's far from finished. I do have all the fossils, and most of the fish.I made most of my money buying turnips and setting them on tables (so they don't rot) and waiting for Nook to buy them at 150+ bells. I also filled every square inch of my town with trees (which are now torn down in maniacal celebration) to sell lotsa fruit. You could easily make 100,000 bells a day. If the fruit grew back that fast, anyway.

I'm wearing my Atma Rune Shirt (my icon on DU!) and googles with blue spikey hair, which is what I used to look like in real life. lol. Really.

I've lost touch with Animal Crossing for the Game Cube because I spend all my gaming time on Animal Crossing: Wild World for DS.

I also like Clubhouse Games for DS.

I like Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life for the Game Cube but I haven't played that for a while. I keep thinking I should get the DS Harvest Moon game. Using the Game Cube seems like a commitment to me - I have to hook it up to the tv and everything. It's so much easier to just open up the DS and play.

15. I've been playing a lot of classics too

Namco Museum and Atari Anthology on my PSX 2. Centipede, Asteroids, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Pole Position. Those games never really get old and they're always fun to bust out every now and again.

Just started Fatal Frame as well, but so far it hasn't really grabbed me the way the Silent Hill or Resident Evil games did. Everyone says it's really good so maybe it'll get better. I'm still very early into it.

34. Just finished Prey

Rented it over the weekend. Not too challenging, but really really engrossing. I really felt as if I were in some epic sci fi movie, rather than playing a sci fi game. It was a lot of fun, don't know if I would drop $60 on it though.

I'm working on the Dark Brotherhood and Arena quests for Oblivion with a Khajiit nightblade character. I'm also playing Fable: The Lost Chapters, which I didn't realize was such an improvement on the original (Mushrooms - funny).

I haven't gotten back to Brothers in Arms 2 yet. I've been stuck at the first 88 emplacement, and I just get tired of getting blown up over and over again -the game can get down right depressing at times.

37. The Ship

It's available from Steam for $19.99 and made with the HL2 Source engine.

It's a multiplayer deathmatch set in the 1930's aboard one of various ocean-liner maps.

There are different playmodes, but it's largely like the party-game Killer where everyone gets the name of someone else they're supposed to kill in a set period of time while avoiding your killer and being accidentally offed in the crossfire.

You can't kill in view of other passengers or near the security cameras or you get thrown in the brig for 30 seconds.

You have to find weapons, and you also have to take care of certain needs like food, drink, bathing, reading.

It played really fast in the one major server I tried on. I would like to find one where the games go on longer.

39. Tried out Dead Rising and 99 Nights by renting

I actually returned Dead Rising after one night due to frustration - partly because of the difficulty, partly because of the horrible save system, and partly because I knew I wouldn't have enough time to play it to get through the story. That being said, I'm keeping it on my wish list of games to own, because I think that this is a game that demands to be replayed over and over. You need to replay it just to level up enough so you can actually finish it - what I mean is that there is a save option that will save your characters stats but you start at the beginning of the game. This is helpful in that you keep all the extra health and abilities you've developed; but also frustrating in that I feel that you have to do this in order to get through the whole game, and it gets repetitive and takes you out of the story line. I don't know, maybe I'm not hardcore enough. My other really big complaint has to do with aiming guns - very slow movement, which in certain missions leaves you vulnerable to fire from an opponent while you are trying to aim at him.

Ninety-nine nights is sheer mindless fun. Not much of a plot. But you just need the bare threads of a plot in order to move all the goblin-slaughtering fun along. I'm not finished with it yet - with some characters, you can finish their storylines by playing straight through, but with others, I found that it's best to replay missions and build up the character's level (especially the girl sorceress - wussy at low levels!). This is, in a way, sort of like SW Battlefront in that the main part of the fun is taking out hordes of enemies - this is just in a fantasy setting. The huge amounts of units on screen at once, all engaged in individual combat, is a real treat too. Music is fantastic, but the terrain tends to be monotonous. It's a good renter, I would consider buying it used when the used copies drop under $30, just because it's a good stress relief to see your enemies' bodies fly back from you.

42. Destroy All Humans 2 on X-Box

I loved the first game, 2nd game less so because it has 90% easy stuff and 10% tough, (read: remote smashingly tough) stuff. Many of the snarky lines are great: Krypto to pretty Russian spy; "Heya toots, you are SO DAMNED hot...what say you and me...you know..." Russian spy; "You have such beautiful teeth Krypto, want to keep them that way?"

I WAS playing Oblivion until my 360 died. Now I have to get that fixed, hope to do so soon because I miss my 45th level female Dark Elf Mage. Even Krypto would approve if he saw her.

Great set of achievements, too - not just the boring old "achievement for beating this boss, achievement for beating this level" that is a sign of a lack of imagination. ...of flight sims. The latest version is 1946. I'm revisiting some of the original eastern front campaigns offline and I've been in a squadron for 4 years that flies online every Friday night. Medieval II just released a definitive patch(1.2) so I'll probably be playing more of that now, although the game wasn't too bad even @the 1.1 version.

57. In IL-2 itself there are a number of biplanes that are flyable.

The CR-42 vs. the Gladiator is my favorite, but there are other match ups. There is even a campaign add-on called Combat over Europe that includes a pseudo WWI campaign. Hopefully, by the end of the year we will have a true, dedicated biplane combat sim. It's being developed by a Russian team and will tentatively be called Knights of the Sky. Needless to say, I was vastly underwhelmed. With, as it turns out, pretty much everything about Halo 2.

Having gotten into Bioshock and (breathlessly) awaiting Crysis, well, let's just say that I ain't falling for the hype this time. Hell, Portal looks like more fun to me than Halo 3, and it's being sold as part of the Orange Box bundle.

I hope the money they've spent on ads for Halo 3 means they ran out of great ideas for the game, and it's completely polished and The Best Halo Ever.

Wait until Unreal 3 is out- I think it just might put Halo 3 to bed.

My big, neon point: Halo isn't all that and the bag of chips.

80. Ah but the X-Boxers who've never touched a PC game

Either for lack of equipment, platform elitism, or personal techincal ineptitude will scream bloody murder at you for that. Part of it is, IMHO, never playing Half Life or Half Life 2 on PC when they came out...hell, even now they STILL rock the box.

I was rather pissed that they ported Halo 2 to the PC so damn late and as a motivator to upgrade to Vista.

The stunning throw-me-down attitude to the folks who built modern gaming was extremely disdainful.

I rather like the marketing they've done for the TV spots for Halo 3 aside all that. Then again, I paint minis and hope to make some diaramas when and if money comes my way.

81. Credit where it's due

That miniatures spot for Halo 3 was well done. I get the feeling they used CG (DID they use real minis?), but it's still nicely done.

I've never- not once, ever- been able to get the hang of aiming with a control stick. There's little precision, and less control, compared with a keyboard and mouse. Further, console ports for PC games are usually dumbed down a bit in some areas, often in the UI for some strange reason.

Take the item screen in Oblivion. The clean, installed copy allows you to see a very small portion of your inventory, because each slot by default takes up huge amounts of real estate on the screen. BTMod fixes this, but in any event, it looks as if the PC version caves to console gamers in that respect.

And why is it that you can expect less detail in such a screen on a console, anyway, as opposed to a PC? Again, BTMod makes those slots smaller onscreen for PC gamers, allowing them to see more information. Hmph. I thought that was a good thing.

Secondly, there's Bioshock. While developed on and for the PC, the (cry pardon) "console-tard effect" once again rears its ugly head, this time on the ingame map: the icons for the various vending machines are so goddamn big they actually occlude some doorways, often leaving one to ask "now how did I get in there again?" when looking at the map. Color me more sophisticated, but I would guess that smaller icons, or those same ones, off the map, with lines pointing to their exact location, would have made a lot more sense.

And these are actually real gameplay issues, not simple quibbles. Having to scroll through a dozen inventory pages to find that sword makes the game tedious in some ways; not being able to find your way into or out of a room for the size of the icons on the map makes the game frustrating in some ways. I'm certain you could come up with more examples of what I'm talking about if you tried. They're literally all over the gaming landscape.

And ANOTHER thing: if you're going to release a PC port for a console game, have the damn thing ready when the console version ships, or risk your game being seen as "old hat" when it finally does arrive.

I don't really care what the console fanbois have to say about this particular point of view, because I own a console (not new-gen, though) myself. Several, actually, and many more emulated..... on my PC.

I enjoy Chrono Trigger and Crono Cross more than any of the Final Fantasy games really (Except FF3 US, that game was amazing). Its really dissapointing they never released any more.

94. Shadowrun

This game got a lot of bad press, but it's actually quite a fun change from the normal CS/Halo-style multiplayer shooters. There's absolutely no single-player game (other than a 6-part tutorial), but the online action is fast and fierce.

Granted, I'm biased because I'm an old Shadowrun PNP player/GM. :) But even if you don't know the world in which the game is set, it's fun to be able to rez, teleport, etc. in a FPS.

If anyone wants to pound out a few achievements, message me at Xbox Live tag "Ignis Fulmineus" and we'll set up a match.

I also play some of the Gamespring games now and again, and a lot of emulator stuff from MAME to NES and Super NES and Genesis. I have damn near everything except enough hard drive space. :P

97. I just started Condemned 2: Bloodshot yesterday

I played for maybe an hour. The original is a great game, and the sequel appears to be living up to its predecessor. Graphics are much better, enemies are tougher, combat is improved, and the forensic minigame is great - not only do you have to collect the evidence, you have to INTERPRET it as well - so you get to put all that time watching CSI reruns on Spike to good use! I've already had one moment in the game where it freaked me out.

Like I said, only one hour in. but I think this game may end up being the most underrated game for Xbox 360 to come out this year.

I put this into my Gamefly queue on a whim, because a friend recommended it. The game received a lot of (well deserved) bad press upon release due to the number of bugs, but subsequent patches seem to have ironed most of those problems out.

Think GTA on a prep-school scale, and you've got the gist. I'm having a lot more fun than I would have thought possible. The writing isn't always top-notch, but the dialogue is usually funny, the situational comedy is spot-on for the various cliques, and the gameplay is pretty engrossing.

I'd write a longer review, but I need to go egg a few more cars...

It was okay, but I got bored with it pretty quick.

I pretty much got bored with WoW, and have been playing Everquest II.
