Xbox 360 = piece of junk
My 12 year old son bought one of these last Christmas with his own money. After about 4 months it started with the read errors and freeze ups. Right after the warranty, of course.

Then I go looking for troubleshooting tips and find there are thousands of these things out there with not only this problem, but they also get this red ring of death thing where they just stop working.

Now I have to send it back for repair. I have heard that they charge $140.00 but I don't know yet if they will charge me.

Looks like Microsoft again put a piece o' crap product on the market before they had the bugs worked out. I think a class-action lawsuit is in order.

1. Try This Link
https://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx

That's the link for Microsoft's XBox 360 warranty service. You just have to have a Windows Live ID (if it was connected to XBox Live it should have one). After you sign in, you enter the serial number on the back of the 360, and they will let you know if you're still under warranty. I mention this because Microsoft extended the warranties of a bunch of 360's (including mine, which I thought was expired)after the outcry over the Red Ring Of Death became too much to ignore. So your xBox may in fact still be under warranty. Whether or not it is,you can schedule a repair directly from this page. Microsoft then sends a box for your 360 with a prepaid UPS label. You send it out, and get your repaired 360 (or more likely, a refurbished replacement) in about 3 or 4 weeks. Just be sure to remove the hard drive if it has one, and any games inside it or peripherals attached to it, because Microsoft won't send them back to you if you leave them in. I hope this helps.

2. Sorry that happened to you.
Mine works fine, thankfully. I was worried about that problem for a while but I figure that after a year and a half, if it were to croak, it would have gone by now.

4. Just got the red ring of death......
I called 1800-4myxbox to return it for repair and told my son to play it while he can before the shipping box gets here.

Last night he got the red ring of death, so it looks like I won't be paying for it. It would be under the extended warranty for sure.

I'm glad I held on to his original xbox or he'd try to take over my pc!

I've only had my replacement for a month, and it'll take me longer to get another replacement than I actually spent playing the one that just died. Unbelievable. I will never, EVER buy another piece of Microsoft hardware. :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh: :argh:
