1942: Joint Strike - PS3 - Demo - Review
I think this is an older PS3 release but I was browsing through the demo's and decided to try it.

The demo has a pretty bare bones start up screen but it gets pretty annoying as you look through the menu. Planes do a wipe over across the screen to go to the next menu with a classic "planes flying over head" sound as they go across. Cute the first time but it got wicked annoying quickly.

Online mode is dis-abled in the demo, so no idea if anyone even still plays it. It has a score board for each of the difficulties which is nice... I guess... It lets me see how really bad I've become at these types of games :D There is also a help&options choice that is pretty standard, music volume, effects volume, controls, blah, blah, blah. Nothing special.

The game itself is pure classic arcade shooter of the old Capcom style. Really nothing new here at all except that it looks amazing. Hard as can be, even on the easiest setting. Bullets, power ups and little medals that give bonus points fly everywhere. Even when you are powered up you spend a lot of time dodging and chasing things all over the screen. The enemies vary for tiny planes to gigantic mother ships to various things on the ground to bomb.

The full game is only 9.99, when I have the extra cash I'll probably pick it up as I really like these old school shooters... even if I suck at them now... Back in the day though... When I still had reaction skills... I was mediocre at them :D As with so many other games though, if you like this type of game, I think it's a good value but if you don't, there is nothing here to bring you into it.

1. I've thought about getting this one for a long time.
Love shooters, but like you I'm not *cough* as uber as I once was. :P

I do have a high score of over 120 million on Super Stardust HD, though. :D

2. The Best shooters on PSN are Soldner-X 2:Final Prototype
and Dead Nation. Check out the videos.

Skip Soldner-X: Himmelsstrumer.

3. I watched videos for all three of those this morning.
I don't know how the bloody hell I missed them!

But now I want all three, including the one you said to skip. And we're still broke as a joke so it's going to be a while, but at least I know what I want for a belated birthday present now. :D
