SUBJECT: Governor Richardson of New Mexico threatening to veto
historic state Money Follows the Person bill(HB 353)

Governor Bill Richardson is being counseled by state bureacrats to veto the
historic state Money Follows the Person legislation, HB 353 overwhelmingly
passed a month ago by the New Mexico legislature and supported by every New
Mexico aging and disability advocacy group. He has till tomorrow March 8th
to sign or veto the bill

Governor Bill Richardson is the chairperson of the Democratic Governors
Association (DGA) and has been touted to have Presidential aspirations. His
actions will have national implications for the freedom and independence of
thousands of disabled and older Americans and implementation of Money
Follows the Person all over the country.

Please phone, fax, e-mail (through website) Governor Richardson's office
TODAY.

The message is simple - SIGN HB 353 TODAY!!!! - MONEY FOLLOWS THE PERSON

Richardson did on this? I've been impressed with him up to now, so it would be a disappointment if he did veto it. It has seemed to me otherwise that he might make a very good VP candidate (I don't think he's ready for the presidency yet, but if he backs off from the veto, who knows).

Thanks a lot, Traveling_Home, for posting all the important articles you share with us here in the Disablilty Forum. You seem to be on top of a lot of things.

On edit: And why in the world would he veto it, as it saves money and allows people to live as they want? Is it nursing home pressure? Or?

I'm really glad, because it's a really important issue, and the sensible arguments are all on the plus side for signing it - it even saves the state money. I'm glad to see he didn't cave.
