Civil service disability retirement?
I am just looking into it now after years of chronic deppresion, CFS and fibromyalgia,

I have 27 years at the postal service but I am 4 and ahalf years from retirement age,..

These diseases are often difficult to get disability I know, especially ssi

Anyone out there have any knowledge about the csrs dis retirement process?

1. I can help
Here's some basic info.

If you are in CSRS, you will be required to file for Social Security disability benefits, too. Even if you are not paying Social Security tax, you are paying Medicare tax. If you aren't paying Social Security tax, there will be a 24 month waiting period for you to receive Medicare unless you...

1) have Amyotropic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's disease), you get Medicare immediately, or
2) you are on kidney dialysis (you get it in 3 months), OR
3) you turn 65 within the 24 month waiting period.

CSRS disability payments will generally equal 40% of your high-3 salary

It generally takes 120-180 days to process CSRS disability claims.

You can get more information by going to OPM's webpage at

http://www.opm.gov

I hope this helps!

3. I used a disability specialist who walked me through it. They
take a portion of you back pay but are usually worth it. Also my fibromyalgia turned out to be diabetes. Have it checked.

7. good for you. It took me three years to get my disability
from the Post Office. Our area is known for screwing the disabled.

Did they make you file for SSID before you got your disability? I did and got it on the first try.

Good luck, and stay well.
