The disabled go to back of the bus in 2006!
Edited on Sat Jun-24-06 05:57 PM by 1776Forever
What does it take for this country to realize that we are in a period of complete and utter deterioration? I think we are all too engrossed with looking over our shoulders at the bill collectors and reaching for solace through our computers. I am the mother of 5 sons, one of which has progressive MS. I have seen so much in the last couple of years that I am just at the point of saying that we in the USA are becoming a 3rd world country. He finally got his SSI through after 2 years of going to ER rooms where they practically let him die and even now with the insurance he has he can't find competent Dr's because Medicaid doesn't pay on time so they drop out like flies! There are so many people in our country with no health insurance and more and more every day. Millions of illegal aliens are compounding this terrible condition taking away what they came to this country for, a better life! I don't know what it takes to wake up the populace until it comes home to roost in their backyard. I know how that is with loved ones serving in Iraq too, as 2 of my sons have done. It seems like the war isn't even real to most people. I pray for this country everyday and cannot believe how some on the right think they are the righteous ones! They are being lied to everyday by the falsehoods coming out of our leaders. God help us! We must wake up and it must happen soon!

6. agreed!
1776, I know all too well what you are going through.

All of us DU'ers are united through our collective frustrations in the false-holiness of this corrupt administration. The wrath on those that are after billions and could care less about humanity, will be SWIFT and painful when the time comes.

God bless you & your family! :)

2. I am very sorry for what you're going through. I also have a
disabled son, a child with autism. I'm scared for his future.

I have (supposedly good) health insurance, and they still haven't paid my anesthesiologist for my surgery five months ago. They are coming after me in 30 days for the $1,400. But what is odd is that they paid the hospital and surgeon. Like I was supposed to do this without anesthesia?

I have days where the only reason I don't cancel the health insurance is that my son needs it for his meds, which cost about a house payment every month. They aren't interested in paying for his speech therapy or anything else related to his disability.

3. Good luck with that
I got seriously ill and was bankrupted. I had the best insurance plan that Dell offered too. The LTDI insurer didn't want to pay it was a disastrous experience. I finally got SSD but it took forever. I was able to go to VA because of a service connected disability without that I would be done for.

4. Hey - here's some links for you
http://www.teacch.com/links.html

It's an NC centered program but the have other links that look interesting for you.....

Here're some TX links, too.

Most public schools system provide speech therapy even if they do nothing else for the non-schooled child. Let me know if you need help tracking down services for your son.

5. Thanks. My son's classroom is actually moving away from TEACCH
and towards ABA model. I am looking at a center in Austin -- they do nothing but work with autistic kids and parents.

My son gets some really good services where he is. This therapists have been wonderful with him. He also gets OT. The one thing I wish we had here was a music therapist, and that job has been unfilled for about 3-4 years. There isn't anyone wanting to move here, even with pretty good pay. There aren't enough of them.

Thanks for the links and encouragement. I'll add them to my list, and especially look at the second one.
