Buffet & Gates Foundation Are You Listening Charity Should Begin At Home!
Edited on Thu Jun-29-06 10:35 PM by 1776Forever
My son tried to OD tonight on pain killers because he just can't take the incompetence in the medical field concerning his progressive MS illness any more! Because he is on Medicaid he can only go to the physicians who take it and unfortunately 90% of them seem to be in a lower bracket because they need the business. He has been pushed and pulled through the ER rooms and now with insurance he is having to deal with ignorance when it comes to his neurological problems. He has many issues that he has to deal with daily. One of which is bladder problems that means he has to struggle to go to the bathroom and another is chronic pain that cannot be helped with any drugs. He went to Shands Hospital in Jacksonville and he was to see a specialist there but they called and canceled his July appointment. With not seeing an end in site he just couldn't take it any more. I can't tell anyone what hell this is unless you have been through this or know someone dear to you that has but this country cannot keep acting like it is socialism to take care of our own citizens damn it! What is wrong with giving dignity to someone when they have no where to go but up? I see this as a huge issue for many many families and it will continue to be until we get an Administration who will face the health care crisis in this country. It is not only those on Medicaid as I have seen it myself with good health insurance and the ER room debacle is a whole issue in itself! The Gates Foundation is trying to fight illness around the globe but I would like them to take a look at what we have right here in River City! This is so tragic that I believe we are soon to become another 3rd world country when it comes to health care! Take it to the streets and let those who say they are righteous know that this is not the way a Christian should act when it comes to those who are in need! Shame on those Republicans who go to there ivory towered churches on Sunday and then say that health care isn't an important issue for all our citizens.

1. this country should take care of health care once and for all
The charities that the Gates foundation sponsors are good charities. Your son is lucky (maybe) that he wasn't taken out and dashed across a rock when he was an infant. I am not trying to make lite of the situation because many Americans are facing the same thing. There is less and less consideration given to the people paying the taxes.

There are 45 million people without healthcare.. I'd like to know if % of the people that do have insurance if medicare/medicaid is counted too. and we all know how horrible that system is.

SURE the Gates Foundation charities are wonderful - I never said they weren't! As far as being lucky bull crap! This is the United States of America DAMN IT and we don't dash people on rocks but we sure as H don't take the care we should when we here are suppose to be the richest and best nation in the world. I had another person who worked for a Congressmen in the Florida legislature that had come from another country that told me the same thing. We have to stand up and say we aren't going to turn into a 3rd world county. My family has served this country and lived here since 1774 and I hope you can understand why I am so upset!

2. see if you can't
find a research program on the net. Also does FL have a Medical Marijuana act. Lots of MS patients I know use it. It might be a good idea to get some with or without a law. This is a disgrace. My heart goes out to you and your son.

3. This country is fully capable of instituting national healthcare
but lacks the popular will to do so, thanks to decades of screaming about socialism every time it's suggested. This country would rather squander wealth in the black hole known ans the Pentagon, overfeeding the military machine, wasting and squandering trillions, than taking care if its own people. We are capable. We just lack the will.

Contrast that to the places the Gates foundation has been spending much of its money. They would love to try national health, but they are so poor they completely lack the means. They have NOTHING to build on, no infrastructure, no production of medications, not enough trained professionals, and HIV is quickly decimating the professionals they do have.

That is why those foundations are spending there rather than here.

If we want national health, we are going to have to make it very uncomfortable for the for profit health care people to stay in business, and very uncomfortable for their enablers in Congress. In short, we're going to have to vote any hostile Congressman in either party out of office and keep doing that every 2 years until the bastards ger the message.

You are so right on! This illegal bastard Administration hides under the robes of a religious theocracy! It is a disgrace for any true caring Christian to see how they step on the teaching of Christ when it comes to the way they ruin the lives of those who are the neediest amoung us! Shame on them and let God be their judge and jury! I believe the word hypocricy is the true nature of these deamons!

hy·poc·ri·sy (hĭ-pŏk'rĭ-sē)

5. I heard somewhere that Bill and Melinda Gates
are putting so much into health care in Africa because so many diseases emerge from Africa. If you improve the health of the Africans, you can stop some diseases before they become epidemic. There's a school of thought that thinks AIDS could have been stopped in Africa if the Western World had more healthcare on the ground in Africa.

It won't do Buffet and the Gates any good to leave all their money to their children, if some pandemic emerges and kills millions of people.

I know this probably doesn't make you feel any better, but I've heard that's the thinking behind this charity.

Let me start off by saying that for 2 years the only care my son could get was in the ER after he had spent all his money and most of our savings! BUT there were plenty of Dr's and nurses who volunteered to go to other countries. NOW I am not saying this is NOT a good thing what I am saying is how about the citizens of this country?????? Get it? I don't want them to forget our own people!:patriot:

14. I can understand your desperation
My daughter, son-in-law and Granddaughter are living with us in a 980 square foot house. My son-in-law's company changed to health care account instead of standard insurance. They get no help until they spend $7,000.00 each year. The baby had two emergency room visits for fever seizures earlier this year. They are in debt thousands of dollars. I have no idea if they will ever be able to move out.

Life is not fair in the United States are now--if it ever was.

You might want to express your anger directly to the Gates Foundation:

I don't blame them for anything! I just wish and hope that they will try to make our health care system here better too!! I am glad they are taking the billions and using it for the good of mankind. Just want them to realize the terrible situations so many of our own families are going through right here in the USA.

Thanks

First let me say that I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I had already emailed this charity months ago and given them my suggestions. I did not get a reply. I also signed up for the update emails that I receive monthly. I think what they are doing is wonderful, as I have stated, but I would like to see more proactive action in our own system here in the U.S.A.

In the mid-1960's a woman in Ohio couldn't have her tubes tied until she had 5 children. Well I was one of those that luckily (?) could have children easily and I had 5 sons in 7 years. Then after the 5th I was "allowed" to have my tubes tied after my husband OKed it!! My son started out life at 2 weeks old with seizures from pneumonia! My son couldn't go to the hospital then because my husband had no insurance! His father was ill also at that time and he lost many jobs and it took years then (1970) for him to get his Social Security Disability through. And then in 1980 I was told when Reagan's Gang came in and stripped millions of their SSD benefits, that I was one of the lucky ones because I had nothing and most had lost homes, cars, etc. and some had even committed suicide! Perhaps I was somewhat immune to poverty because I had always made lemonade out of lemons for years and still do, which I am sure you do too! So this has been a terrible debacle for many many years. The shame is that this country has not been able to shake the socialism label set up by those in power, the Dr's and pharmaceutical companies. Your families example is one of millions in this country that face the tragedy of this health care society ever day! And yet we spend BILLIONS of tax dollars on Medicaid and Medicare into a disastrous system of red tape and fraud and most of it by the physicians and drug companies! My son had to go on the "free" medicine programs when he was finally diagnosed. These programs are good and needed BUT the billions we give to these companies in the name of research seems to me to defeat the true purpose of the drugs, to help those who need it. Drugs are fine but if not administered correctly and in my son's case to a chronically ill person, they do not do what they are capable of doing. I would like to see a chronically ill program set up for people like my son and your Grand-daughter so they could be given quality health care which in the end would save money! We are going to a cookie-cutter program here in Florida soon and it is very scary! I have written when I did find the time to the legislature and ask that these issue's be addressed. Someone there sent me back a reply that I could hardly understand because it made little sense! I suggest that people take more of an interest in these issues and fight for quality of life for all our citizens - who knows it might be their family who has to suffer through this maze next!

May God bless your family! :grouphug:

26. Thanks for your thoughts
My granddaughter is doing fine now. It appears she suffered no damage, but it was a very expensive viral infection with a high fever. She had another problem right after she was born and was treated at the local Children's Hospital and the hospital waived part of the bill. I suspect the Gates probably contributed to that particular hospital as it is located in Seattle.

Our only choice was to take my daughter, her husband and baby in. I did not expect to have a toddler running around the house at this point in my life. My daughter and her husband made some bad choices, but with their medical insurance having a $7,000.00 deductible, I don't see how they will ever get out of the hole.

I wish for better days for you and your son. I wish for better days for all of us.

harder for a parent than to suffer along with a child.

Unfortunately, even someone with Gates assets can only do so much -- and the public health measures they are working on will benefit people in the U.S., too.

We can only hope that this billion dollar charity will make sure that at least one or two of the billions are spent right here where most of it came from. I would like to see better health care for the world then none at all but I think the hypocrisy in this country over calling good health care socialism must stop!

17. Did you pay taxes to Gates or the U.S. government?
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 12:54 AM by Erika
The U.S. owes it's tax payers health coverage. Bill Gates has nothing to do with this.

Interesting concept: Make corporations resp
onsible for health care, I'm sure the defense and energy companies will entertain this concept. Not.

I couldn't agree more with you more, we should have our tax dollars go where they would do more good then into the corporations CEO bonuses! I was trying to let the Billionaires know that we should remember our own citizens when giving out their billions along with the rest of the world. Sometimes it seems that these people in high places forget there are needs right here in our own country!

18. I am truly sorry for you and your son
I am a mother, and a grandmother, and nothing in life is harder than to see one of our children suffer. We would rather take the pain on ourselves, if we could. You are right in pointing out the shame of a country as rich as us turning our backs on those who need our help. I would rather pay more in taxes to help people like your son, instead of spending that spending money killing others, and enriching the president's cronies, it's a shame and a sin.

What do the Republicans want, except to bleed us dry, and heap riches onto the already wealthy. Meanwhile, our fellow citizens are driven to despair, because as rich and as powerful as this country is, the government is in essence telling people like your son that they are not worthy of living. I can see how you are outraged, especially when politicians run over each other in order to claim how moral and righteous they are. Their idea of being a good person, and moral, is simply stirring up hatred of gays, and women, and minorities.

Instead of the sham of "liberating" the people of Iraq, and killing thousands of them by doing so, we should truly liberate people like your son, who are unable to survive with society's help. Your son is being kept a prisoner, his only crime was in being ill, and not being rich. I feel the anguish you are going through. I will pray for you, and for your son, and only wish that it were in my power to do more.

Your son is fortunate to have you as his advocate. Please, don't give up hope of finding help for him. Check in here when you are feeling overwhelmed, there are sympathetic people here, who can give you moral support, if nothing else.

Your kindness glows with pure light in your wonderful words! How kind of you to take the time to let me know you understand and empathize with me. How true when you say the government is only telling my son he is not worthy of living. That is exactly how he feels right now! It is hard to put into words the essence of the misery my poor son is in. He is a prisoner! I will continue to try to reach those in power in the government and elsewhere with my mission. I am going to get my Doctorate and use this to further my advocacy of this terrible situation in what most people think of as the greatest country in the world! You are right when you say shame on those in power for using our tax dollars to give corporate welfare instead of quality of life! There is a choice!

Thank you so much! O8) :loveya:

23. You get that degree!
this nation needs more advocates, more people willing to stand out and speak the truth of this country - which is - our economy is tied into the Military Industrial Complex that it literally must be weened away from this gross plan (and injustice) asap.

We are literally spending half our taxes for warfare...

That's a load of manure that goes from one ocean to the other in every military installation, weapons production facility, and troop supplies factory across this country.

Sorry, but the dessert buffet table needs flipped over!

I fully agree pushing hard on every candidate to rebuke the over-militarization of our economy. These S.O.B.'s have made trillions over the past 40 years building bombs!

it's been a rough night and knowing our gov't doesn't give a shit about anything other than war is frustrating to no end...

Bush doesn't even THINK about that term, all he loves to talk about is the war on terrrrrrrr.
