Idea for Public Transportation and Smart Growth DU group

Apologies for cross-posting, but I posted http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x852564">this in the general discussion forum, where it soon got lost in the crush. It is a proposal for a DU group on the topic of public transportation and better urban planning. Since people with disabilities (like myself) are disproportionately affected by the dominance of the car, I thought I'd try my luck here. Also contact your local ILC and ADAPT chapter to get a good idea how they see your local transportation and it's compliance with ADA. Also contact your local public transportation Office and ask to speak to their ADA compliance office. Get well educated on your local system. Think Globally - Act Locally. SHare with us what you think might be a good approach after you get well grounded. If you're already well aware of these local isses- What Got In Mind????!!!!!

At this time of my life I am strictly interested in the disability side of the issue.
