Ok, I just finished posting on DU where someone posted that disability fraud
was wide spread. Wtf? As most who post here has either been through the process or just started the process knows proving a disability keeps then from working is not just a matter of having your doctor saying your disability keeps you from working, which is a wide spread myth that started with wing nuts. I just have a hard time believing that SSI and SSDI are loaded with fraud, I'm sorry but I just can't see anyone waiting 3 or more years to win a case and having to deal with all the stress involved in the process doing it for the $690 a month disability check. Correct me if I'm wrong and fraud is wide spread.

2. Im seeing a lot more wingnut thinking posing as Democrats recently
As the GOP descends into the crazy it looks like many former conservatives are migrating into our party, and liberals and moderates become pushed into a near minority in the process.

5. It would seem that way.
I think the wingnuts are just the louder minority as of right now though. There seem to be more than there really are.

6. One wing nut on a site I stopped posting on a few years ago once posted she could
tell if someone was disabled or not by the number of posts the person made on the site. Same wing nut also claimed that there are no poor people in America because the poor here had computers and cable TV.

10. Back in the good old days
the Repubs said it was a television set

Reagan exploited that kind of thinking; it helped elect him President and enabled his Party to help out the truly disadvantaged: the CEOs of large corporations!

3. It's RW bullshit - an excuse to be against all disability funding...
"What ELSE do those people want us to do for them?" Very similar to the old but persistant "welfare Cadillac", also RW bullshit.

They have a never ending supply.

4. What a bunch of haters
would like to see them go through what it take to get disability, plus the yearly hassle of updating..

Say or Do whatever it takes to win, play on ignorance.
Boy, do we have a lot of ignorance in this country.

7. In addition, you don't live all that well on it. It's parsimonious, in fact
Anyone who can work does work because you live much better with a paycheck than you do on the dole.

What a lot of picklefaces are calling fraud is the type of disabled person whose disability isn't apparent at a glance, people with severe fibromyalgia, mental health issues, MS in temporary remission, and others. They see people who look the same as they do, not missing limbs and not in wheel chairs or walking with white canes, and ASSume they're milking the system, while the truth is that they are disabled and no one will hire them even if they could manage to do part time jobs.

I wish there was a way to shut picklefaces up without having disaster happen to them personally, but that has never been the case.

8. What always frustrated me was how people never saw all the things I forced myself to do
and only focused on the things I either couldn't do or wouldn't do, really being a janitor is easy work or so said people who didn't have a handi cap or didn't work as a janitor. I kept on telling them to try working while dragging around a 50 pound weight on your ankle cause after an hour of being on my feet thats what my leg felt like, not to mention the leg cramps that would wake me up screaming after an 8 hour day of walking or standing. Then there was the falling and dropping things after 2 weeks on the job. Desk work caused uncontrollable hand shakes after 30 minutes plus unbearable back pain after 45 minutes of sitting. Yeah my only problem was I am lazy. My biggest problem was only a few people seen me enough to see me go through any of this as I tend to avoid people.

13. Since my diagnosis with cancer, I have learned that people have very little empathy
and even less concern for those of us who are ill and/or disabled. They preach about what we SHOULD be doing, and they point out all the reasons why THEY will never be sick or become disabled. They rarely want to hear about us, especially the hard details. At least this has been my experience -- in my own experience and when my Grandmother had a stroke back in the '90s everyone stopped coming to see her, like all at once. It's a cultural thing, since Americans are so terrified of illness and death (we deny. deny. deny it) we/they can't even have a rational discussion with an ill relative. And they especially can't handle details.

Truly, I was much more optimistic about humanity before I got diagnosed with cancer. Even members of our own family (my spouse's family and my family)have stopped coming to see us or don't contact us as often. They don't want to hear details of my cancer; they just want to hear very limited facts.

11. I'm on disability and I agree with you
I'm a Vietnam vet who was exposed to agent orange and have a circulation problem in my legs that keeps me from doing meaningful work in the construction and factory field where I spent my time as a worker. When I was stricken and I applied for my disability I was given disability on the first try but i can't see how there can be much fraud because of the process you go through to get there. Hell who in his right mind would trade making as much in one week as I get now in a month and go though the process to get to there? I don't believe there is that much fraud I think it is like you said something started by the wingnuts who don't like anything anyone else does or has if they don't have it or are doing it themselves, sometimes the idiots won't like it even if they are doing it too. Lots of crazy people in this world who are getting crazier by the day. The teabaggers is a testament to that.
