Captions and transcripts provider... opinions on an idea
Hey, I'm a transcriptionist and I do video captions (as well as subtitles and translations) and I was wondering if any deaf or hearing impaired people (or anyone who prefers captioned or transcribed content for whatever reason) could tell me a little bit about your experiences with internet content and "new media" as it stands today. Do you find that the content you are interested in provides captions or transcripts? Do you wish more content providers had transcripts and captions available?

Also, since even offering a low enough rate to make it barely possible to make a profit with, a lot of content providers these days seem unwilling to pay for captions and transcripts, do you think it's possible to change the business model and make a living providing captions and transcripts for popular content for free and hosting it on a site with ads or that asks for donations or membership fees? Would you visit a site like that, with a variety of multimedia content (videos and podcasts) with captions and transcripts?

Still playing around with the idea. I have been doing transcripts for The David Pakman Show (you can see them here) to advertise my site, but I'm starting to think that generating alternative sources of revenue and providing transcripts and captions for free might be a possible alternative that creates more accessible content and creates more work for us transcriptionists. What do you think?
