Indeed, your friend is an amazing woman. I LOVE this story!
My husband has a special affection for down syndrome individuals. It's amazing. My hubby led a rather hectic lifestyle once upon a tiime. Quite the roughian. Today, with his own physical handicaps firmly in place, he has somehow slowed down enough to appreciate life. For him some of the sweetest life is found in the down syndrome children and adults he meets during his daily comings and goings.
There is a "skills center" nearby. It's a place that teaches and helps employ those people who are able to work. They ride the bus every morning along with my hubby. They are such fun and ALWAYS say EXACTLY what they are thinking/feeling...I adore that quality.
When I was a young single mother I had to supplement my income so I took a job as housekeeper and caregiver for an Adult household of Down Syndrome individuals. It was just so much fun, magical and enlightening too.
GREAT POST.
