OurMoneyToo.org - add tacticle features to currency
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 11:13 PM by Kire
Please support a worthy cause. Show your true values.

Received from a local activist/member.

"I am writing to tell all of you about www.OurMoneyToo.org . We are a group of blind and sighted activists based in Massachusetts working to have tactile features added to United States paper currency. We are lobbying for tactile features to be added to United States paper currency that visually impaired people can independantly determine what change they get back at stores. On our web site you can learn more about the issue, and help us by contacting Congress and letting them know that you support our project."

1. Japanese paper money has had this for some time
I had the chance to feel a 100-yen note provided by a Japanese guest at a recent training in deafblindness.

Plus, this feature is also a serious barrier to counterfeiting. Present U.S. currency is still one of the easiest to counterfeit, despite the recent improvements (peach-colored ink on the 20, etc.)

2. Dutch guilders have always had that feature
and I believe they've added it to at least the Dutch euro, if not all of them.
