Surviving the Applewhites - what do you think? (and another question)

Has anyone read this book? I loved it and so did a lot of my students (I teach 6th and 7th grades in a public school). I liked the way the school was portrayed in it.

BTW, I have a 2 year old who I am interested in homeschooling/unschooling when she is older. My problem is that I am a single mom, so I would have a problem with finances unless I find a partner. How do you deal with the loss of a second income in your family? How many single moms are homeschooling their kids, and how can you afford it!

1. I have a friend who wanted to homeschool her kids

so she started her own school, using the Calvert School format. Maybe, since you have certification, you could find a few parents who would be willing to pay you to teach their children. That way your daughter would reap the social benefits of learning with a small group.

It would mean quitting your regular job, of course; but it might be worth considering...

I also wish I had an independent income. I have a grandson starting K next September, and I'd love to be his personal "school."
