Anyone have experience with Kumon Math/Reading centers?

We're just starting the home-schooling process for our 6 year old this summer and are thinking of using Kumon for supplemental learning. May also use them for our 8th grader to boost his math. Does anyone have any pluses or minuses about their centers and method of instruction? I understand that it's mostly self-instruction, self-paced. Thanks! - K
