from this public school teacher. :hi:
I'm assuming that you are home schoolers, or home school advocates, because you recognize the dysfunctions, historical and current, in our public ed system.
I'm also guessing that most of you are supporters of public ed, recognizing that a GOOD, well-run public ed system would offer equal intellectual opportunity for all, and will help keep a democratic republic healthy and thriving.
So here's the question:
How many of you are willing to be a force for change for public education?
I hear so much criticism, and fatalism, but education is rarely at the top of anybody's list of issues needing activism. Even here at DU, a supposedly political discussion board, there is more attention given to sports and media celebrities, and sensational news stories, than to public education.
NCLB is up for renewal this year. While it is not the only thing wrong with public education, by far, I don't see how any constructive reform could take place with NCLB in place. Will home schoolers unite to be vocal, and active, on this issue?
