I just received the following letter from Calvert School, which is our homeschool materials provider. It may prove of interest to you:
Dear Calvert Family,
By now, you should have received a letter about Calvert School’s new pilot program for Fourth Grade students with language-based learning differences. The program is designed for students with average to above average intelligence who experience difficulty reading, spelling, or writing, or have been diagnosed with dyslexia or other language-based learning difference. We are currently enrolling a maximum of sixty Fourth Grade students to participate in our pilot program and spaces are filling up quickly.
Though we realize that this program is not for every child, if you observe any of the following behaviors in your child, our pilot program may be appropriate for you.
· poor performance on tested material that was well known right after studying
· requests for clarification immediately after receiving instructions
· continued difficulty with spelling
· continued difficulty with reading
· inability to quickly identify the names of letters, numbers, shapes and colors when exposed to them in random sequences
