1. I have to be honest, here,

I no longer feel very welcome on DU. It doesn't help that I'm no longer a Democrat, and have re-registered as a Green. I just don't fit here. Most have a very hostile attitude toward homeschooling. Obviously, not being in the Party is another strike. Anyway ... I can be contacted by PM. Otherwise, I can be counted on to visit here frequently. I'm sorry. That's just the way it is.

3. We started this Fall with K12- Eldest is taking to it like duck to water and youngest

is adjusting. I am finding I need to develop supplementary material two weeks in. Right now they are highly motivated and completing their work very quickly. Fortunately, I have my own CMS software and server (Moodle) that I use for my university classes. I am using it to construct the supplementary material and placing it online for them to work on.

Having the ability to construct your own "online" material sounds awesome!

I guess though in the interest of "old school" - might I suggest letting them know the joy of having to use - gasp! - the library and real books for at least one project once in a while.

Youngest is doing an Earth Science lab tomorrow involving sticks, sand, the oven and several other parts.

My University has an excellent library just a block from my house. Our faculty (I work for a University) have on campus housing.

So, yeah, they get plenty of outside stuff. Youngest is also doing the art course.

Sounds like fun though.

Was a bit of an adventure though because they wanted to use Popsicle sticks. You can't just get those here. I ended up at my university book store buying balsa wood architecture model planks to cut our our sticks. Even that is a math lesson. Now, measure and cut into 10 equal lengths.

8. My son would sometimes ask me a question with the caveat

"I just want to know the answer, don't make it a whole homeschool thing, mom!"

EVERYTHING is a "learning opportunity"!!

I miss homeschooling. :sigh:

9. FYI: It was desertification. We had improvise and had a blast blowing on the sand

our hairdryer was too wimpy for the job.

I use http://www.brainpop.com. If you pay about $10 per month, you get access. They are animated episodes on just about everything under the sun.

There are so many fun resources these days!
