1. "Pygmalion" - Shaw as it was writ.
We all probably grew up with the dash and colour of "My Fair Lady", and "Pygmalion" seems quiet and a little grey
by comparison, but this is how Shaw wrote it, and it's a delight to view. Leslie Howard was always wonderful to
watch, and he's matched to the hilt by Wendy Hiller, a very fine actress. I haven't seen this for ages, so I've
put it on my Quickflix list.

I've never seen "Secrets", nor any of Mary Pickford's talkies, except for "Taming of the Shrew" (once), but I looked
it up on IMDb, and was amazed to see that she had made a total of 249 films. In her first year, 1909, she made
fifty-one! They really churned them out back then - it makes you realise what a totally different filming technique
they had, and what a huge change it was to making talking pictures. Just thought I'd throw that in.
