We managed to stay awake and get there in time! It was so wonderful to see this film in a theater that had all its original art deco decoration, and filled with a crowd who loved it as much as I do! Not going to midnight movies really, I was surprised to see the theater over half-full of enthusiastic movie-goers. There were all ages there, and we all enjoyed the movie, and clapped for it at the end! Even Mr. ld managed to stay awake throughout. I could see a bit more detail of the other apartment dwellers, such as the people who lived above the couple who had the little dog, and slept out on their balcony. I had never noticed the people who live above them before, and saw snippets of them. That was new for me. Grace Kelly's beautiful face filling the screen was mind-boggling! Her wardrobe was gorgeous-- Edith Head (or whoever REALLY designed the costumes) did a beautiful job. I know Edith Head was sort of notorious for claiming credit where none was due, back in the day. Her name is on the screen credits, but I don't know if she really did the actual designing for this film. Does anyone know about this?
The theater has the most wonderful art deco large sculpted motifs on either side of the screen, and all the original art deco lighting fixtures. I tried to take a picture of this for you guys, but I don't think it came out very well. They had the original movie poster in the outer windows, and I took a picture of that too.
They announced that they will be showing 'Casablanca' in April, at another midnight showing. The goofy young guy who was making this announcement before the film started, also snidely said that he would have to ask that that showing be a noon, so that all the 'old people' who love this movie could get out of their 'graves' for the showing! I wanted to smack him right then and there!
I hope you can make out some detail of the theater, and see the movie poster....
We really enjoyed this, and I hope they continue to show some of the oldies but goodies!
