She became known as America’s sweetheart.
Now, 58 years after she starred in “Singin’ in the Rain” with Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor, Debbie Reynolds is coming to Omaha on Nov. 5 for a special screening of her biggest hit movie.
The screening, at 7 p.m. in Joslyn Art Museum’s Witherspoon Concert Hall, is Omaha film historian Bruce Crawford’s 27th fund-raiser featuring a classic American movie.
Tickets are $25 each and go on sale today at all Hy-Vee Supermarkets. Proceeds will benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which offers assistance to those in need.
Crawford said re-enactors in yellow raincoats will greet moviegoers at the Joslyn, 2200 Dodge St. Inside the museum, dancer Dan Wondra will be dressed as Gene Kelly, complete with umbrella, as he performs in the fountain court area and in the concert hall. Hollywood portrait artist Nicolosi will unveil a new portrait of Reynolds and offer color prints for sale.
Just before the screening, Reynolds will tell stories about making the movie. After the screening, she will sign autographs and talk to fans.
