1. TCM here have been playing "Chocolate Soldier" and "Rosalie"

last night and today. Not my favourites, unfortunately. I do like Nelson singing some of the songs (Song of the Flea and O Star of Eve particularly), and his voice blended very well with Rise Stevens', but the script is a bit silly. "Rosalie" is rather a waste of two talented artists.

Last weekend we had "Sweethearts" - more to my taste. Wonderful Dorothy Parker/Alan Campbell script and top supporting players.

For some reason I don't understand, there were finite contracts on "Naughty Marietta", "Maytime", "New Moon" and "Girl of the Golden West", and they're no longer seen here. There are some other films outside this particular genre that this applies to as well, although I can't imagine what the reasons are.

I did notice on Amazon that "Rosalie" has been released on DVD, so I hope perhaps the others will too. I have them all on VHS, but they do wear, so if the DVDs are going to available, I can see I'll be spending some money.

When you look at the Maytime photo, it's very hard to believe there wasn't something going on between them.

I saw Jeanette two weeks ago (her birthday) in Smilin' Through with Gene Raymond - nothing happening.
