Does Leonard Maltin's 2005 Movie Guide
Do a fair job of covering the best old/Classic (30's, 40's, 50's) movies? I have the 1998 version and like it as a quick guide. My sister wants a copy but all I can find is the 2005 version for old and new movies without purchasing Maltin's Classic Movie Guide. Will the 2005 guide work for her?

1. I've always liked the Maltin guides.
They're generally extremely solid, especially concerning classics of the '30s and '40s. I try to buy a new copy each time it is published, as titles are added and of course new DVDs are being issued.

One caveat I have is that it simply can't cover everything that's out there. For example, Turner Classic Movies sometimes manages to unearth features that don't make the Maltin guide.

Still, it's a great source of ideas and quick synopses.
