1. "Gaslight".
I saw this version only last week on TCM here; until then I didn't know there were two productions.

While I've long enjoyed the Boyer/Bergman version, this British film was equally watchable. I have
to say, I preferred Boyer's cold and emotionless performance over Walbrook's slightly hysterical
killer, but although I love Ingrid Bergman, I think she's outdone by Diana Wynyard in this version.
I could never escape the niggling feeling that Bergman's heroine was just a bit wet, but Wynyard
manages to be vulnerable and fragile without being the least bit stupid. The film is worth watching
for her alone, but she's backed up by a fine cast of British character actors.

Don't expect quite the same story as the later Hollywood version though - this film follows a
slightly different story-line, and according to IMDb, is closer to the original stage melodrama.
