Poll question: Inspired by CBH: How many of today's Birthday Girl's-BETTE DAVIS-movies have you seen?
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 11:09 AM by lavenderdiva
Thanks to CBH for the suggestion!

How many of today's Birthday Girl's -- BETTE DAVIS -- movies have you seen and enjoyed? Which ones are your favorites and why?

Since there are SO many wonderful selections to choose from, I have had to narrow the focus to those for which she was nominated for an Oscar (and even then there are 11 choices (!) and only 10 slots in the poll) x( Feel free to add your favorites to your reply!!

1. of course, I had to vote for my favorite 'Mr. Skeffington'
I thought she was at her most beautiful and radiant in this picture, with Claude Rains.

2. I've seen all but
Dangerous and Of Human Bondage. I'm recording Dangerous this evening (along with almost all of the others being shown today! ;)) My favorite is All About Eve but it's hard to pick. I've become such a fan over the last few years, I think because she accomplished so much as an "older" actress. While I think she was beautiful, she wasn't the typical starlet -- her fame was clearly based on talent and she made very few bad choices. I also like how she spoke her mind and didn't seem to care what others thought, especially as she got older.

You should cross-post to the Lounge and see if we can pick up a little more participation! Thanks! :hi:

4. I've seen six of today's features.
At this writing, Now, Voyager is the one I enjoy the most, but there are still many classic Bette Davis movies I haven't yet seen. I have a bias toward the earlier stuff, and the things that are less of a cultural touchstone, such as The Man Who Came to Dinner, in which she plays one of her most normal characters.

I also like The Bride Came C.O.D.; it's good to Cagney and Davis go head to head.

6. Amazing - I've seen them all, even "Of Human Bondage" (once).
My personal favourite is "Now Voyager" (I always liked Paul Henreid too), but I voted for "All About
Eve" because it was such a well-made made film - great script, skillful direction, and so many good
performances from the supporting actors.

The only film I never liked was "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" - it was too over-the-top gross
for my taste, and I felt that Davis was a caricature. I felt uncomfortable watching it, and never
wanted to see it again.
