I prayed to the Blue State God and Apple Computer was listening
I have been in chaos, as of late, because I want to buy a new computer, so I can give my old computer to my son, but my heart would not let me purchase either Gateway or Dell, because they are both FAUX advertisers and Dell, especially, gives bukku to the "Party of Evil."

So, we all know it's socially responsible to buy an Apple, because they're a blue company, but their computers are soooooooo expensive. Even the E-macs are a grand, and any serious model is very expensive.

However, at their new show, they unveiled what's called a "mini mac," which retails starting at $499, and has a souped-up, pre-built model for $599. It has everything the PCs have and it's about the size of a lunchbox.

Now, before I jump to conclusions, there are some questions to be asked:

1. If the computers are so cheap, is somebody getting screwed, somewhere?

and

2. Are the little computers a piece of crap?

I suppose time and reviews will answer those questions for me, but for now, I am possibly pre-maturely hap-hap-happy.

(BTW Hewlett-Packard is a blue company, too, and they do sell computers, as well.)

1. In the Machintosh users group there is a link to an article from the
Wall Street Journal about the Macmini. There are about 181 responses at the thread.
Also there are other articles about the Macmini there.

2. No monitor. That's the key.
Apple uses very good monitors, and the mini does not have a monitor.

It's also going to be minimally upgradable, but then again, my friend's mom's dell is minimally upgradable, and she paid a couple grand for it.

If you like being on a PC (and enjoy dealing with the viruses) you could always patronize your local computer chop shop and have a home built made just for you for about the same as a mini.

After having switched to mac several years ago, I know sure as spit that the last thing I want to do is go back to having to be scared of every email that comes in, certain its loaded with disease and spyware. But YMMV.
