breadbox (which I am still looking for) I did find some other cool stuff by digging around in three different thrift stores this week


here are some of my "scores"



the peach platter, two settings of the cobalt blue and the unique spoon rest, 3 of the powder blue to go with the sets of two settings each of pink, peach and burgundy from the last couple weeks. I have completely replaced my table settings this month for less than $25 and have a wonderful eclectic mix of stone ware from France and the USA

another loaf pan <not pictured> (so if the recipes makes two loaves, I have two pans LOL) a meatloaf insert for the loaf pans too.

a 16" stainless bowl and a 14" stainless strainer. both looked awful til I got the home and used Barkeepers Friend to shine them up. both for around $1.99 each

the cutting board is lovely with the different strips of hardwood. it looked awful til I got it home and rubbed in some butcher block oil. on sale for 75 cents

but that pizza/baking stone with "peel" (pizza wood rack thingie) by KitchenAid for $4.98 was the score of the week I tell ya LOL

I also got a great oval tray that says "Baked Goods" in tan, brown and red that goes well with my other "vintage" food signs that was also on sale for 75 cents

i am having too much fun, but still haven't found the bread box that was the "excuse" for the trip hehehehhe

guess I'll have to keep shopping right?

1. my fave score?

back in november, a pair of size 18 eddie bauer jeans for $3.50 at salvation army (was marked $7.00 but that day all clothes were 1/2 off the tagged price). it was a big deal to me as i've been struggling to lose weight for over a year & had been stuck at a size 20 for months & months despite working out almost everyday & counting my points. :grr:

but then i saw these jeans, my cousin said "try 'em on" so i did & they FIT LIKE A GLOVE!!! :party:

and now of course, they're very loose, so i think i have to go trolling for jeans again (remember my new clothing restriction: no new or new-to-me clothes unless what i have is too big to wear.) :)

i've also scored some plates & big bowls for soups & oatmeal at a goodwill.

2. i'm not thrifting for any more clothes til I clean my closet next month

3. Thank you for this suggestion...I've only thought of thrift shops for

clothes and not kitchen supplies. I generally do not go to thrift stores because I am fat and the clothing selection usually leaves much to be desired.

When I get ready to buy some kitchen stuff I will seek out a thrift store.

I still have a toaster oven I bought for $5 in 1995...works like a charm!

5. not just kitchen gadgets either, there are usually LOTS of curtains

and art prints that are matted and framed at thrift stores.

i got some great Southwest print valances for above my ugly (but essential) blue vertical blinds over my sliding glass doors in the living room. They blend wonderfully with the wall I painted blue last fall.

I am starting to re-do my bedroom and expect to need some new art pieces when I rearrange and am looking at the thrift stores first.

4. My favorite thrift store find...

...was a multicolored purse of faux leather. Different panels of bright blue, orange, green, pink, and yellow - and only a tiny nick to the vinyl which you can't even see when it's not open. Appealed to my gaudy sense of color, and only set me back $2.50. :)

6. I went thrifting over the weekend

and got a nice skirt, two tops, and a pair of shoes all for under $20! You can't beat that with a stick!

7. i have stuck to my promise of no more clothes til i clear out the closet

i'm halfway there, got a HUGE box of shoes in the garage to go and a big empty box for the next step.

I'da done it last weekend, but we ended up going out of town to met the In Laws for lunch on Saturday and then Sunday DH spent most of the day in bed fighting a cold.

8. My best score

A stack of old plates at a community yard sale. I bought 3, 10 cents each, thinking I would collect them through Ebay or something, because they matched my dining room perfectly. Turned out they were Susie Cooper plates, $25 a piece. I have them hanging on the wall instead.
