1. How do they compare to Oreo's for texture and flavor?
I'm assuming they contain no trans-fat? Correct me if I'm wrong.

2. Please reassure me...It is a progressive company?
I hope this isn't another item to cross off my shopping list. I actually rarely buy this stuff since I tend to buy more from Trader Joe's.

7. Ummm... do you know anything about Newman's Own?
It's a company owned and run by Paul Newman (an EXTREMELY liberal/progressive Democrat) and 100% of the profits go to charity.

I think that qualifies as a progressive company. :D

3. Oh boy -- I haven't researched this one.
I must confess, in the past his products were always on my "to-buy" list becaus of his contributions to charity. Doesn't he give away, like, all of the profit or something? And they are such very nice yummy products....

5. the oreo's aren't bad...
This company is true progressive... I don't care about the corporate donations breakdown (if a company gave only donations to Zell Miller, then that company would be "true blue democrat").

6. The Newmans are very progressive.
I have no qualms at all about buying their products. Paul is a real stand up guy. I adore them both.

8. I agree -- Paul is the dude.
His whole family seems really great. My mom's been in love with him for years. Have you tried his pasta sauces? Actually better than I can make myself.

9. What does everyone know about him ideologically?
We know he is charitable and a longtime democrat but what else do we know?

10. He's a real man.
He's been married to the same amazing woman (Joanne Woodward) for 40 or 50 something years.

I'm sure he probably has some strong opinions about drugs. His son Scott was an addict who overdosed years ago-- late 70s or early 80s I think.

11. Cool guy
Paul Newman is a supporter of TrueMajority as is Ted Turner.

Some people could consider him going kind of mainstream in that he has an alliance with McDonald's (a red company). They use his salad dressing. I do buy his products though.

It's a good way for non-activists to begin political purchasing.

12. I use several of the Paul Newman products regularly:
Pasta sauce
Salad dressing
Olive oil (organic - an added bonus)

Occasionally the dog food as a back-up to home-cooked food (also has lots of organic ingredients)

Haven't tried the oreos yet. What else does he have available?

13. I adore Paul Newman.
I simply adore him. Do any of you have any idea how difficult it is to get basic American foodstuffs in Norway? I've gone without ranch dressing for 5 years, until I found Paul Newman's ranch dressing at a newly opened store in Bergen. It's hideously expensive, but I don't care. I have craved ranch. They pretty much only use Thousand Island in Norway, so salads have been torture to eat. The only restaurants that had it were McDonald's, and those are boycotted by default, and have been for years in my family (they don't allow their employees to unionize.) I've had the fortitude to not eat there even with the tempting chicken salads with ranch dressing posters they have in the windows, but now, thanks to Paul Newman, I have Ranch dressing.

Now, the only thing I need is Oreos, and I'll be all set in this rainful city.
