If not Walgreen's....who?
I have several prescriptions for my family at Walgreen's. I want to transfer them and send them a letter telling them why. But I don't want to transfer them to another pharmacy that's just as bad! Any suggestions? I'm in Southern California.

1. Local pharmacy
Edited on Fri May-13-05 12:21 PM by SCDem
Hi there :hi:
I don't know where you are in Southern Cal. I used to live in Claremont. Anywho... where I live now I go to a local independent Pharmacy and pharmacist. Ironically and I didn't know this before I started getting my perscriptions there he is a democrat as well as his family, two daughters being pharmacists also who work there. Go local and find a real pharmacy. Drive around a bit or just open your yellow pages.

Just an idea

2. Good idea
I know where there is a small independent one. I'll try them out. Thanks.

I'm out here in the "pass" area, along the 10 toward Palm Springs. The towns around here are Banning, Beaumont, Cabazon. You know...the dinosaurs?

I was down around Claremont a few weeks ago at Rancho Santa Ana botanical garden. What a cool place.

Say hi to my sister in Spartanburg! :hi:

3. Costco, Sav-on
Target

i heard that you don't have to be a Costco member to get prescriptions there.

or by mail if you have that option through your plans.

4. your insurance plan probably has a mail service
You can get 3 months worth at once, which is convenient for busy people or if you travel a lot, and it is delivered to your door. As long as you're switching, this might be the way to go. I don't know how I ever wasted so much time dealing with local pharmacies that haven't delivered for years and years.

5. Low Cost Drugs
if you have one in your area. I'm without insurance and can still afford my medication, something that I'd never be able to do at 95% of the other pharmacies around. Even if I get insurance in the future I'm gonna stay with this pharmacy, b/c I want to give as much business as I can to a place that finds a way to make drugs affordable for the uninsured.

If you're investigating what pharmacies offer drugs at an affordable price, I would recommend comparing prices of 20mg of prozac (generic, of course) between different pharmacies. It's a common medication that so many people need to be able to simply function in society, but most psychotropic meds are horribly overpriced. If you can buy a month's worth of prozac 20mg for $20 w/out insurance, it's a good pharmacy to use.

9. Pharmacist choice
They have openly given their pharmacist the right to refuse to fill birth control prescriptions or the morning after pill for religious reasons.

I don't live near a Cosco, so I transferred my prescriptions to Target. They give more to the Repugs that the Democrats, but are not entirely RED.

A Cosco is coming to my neighborhood soon, and I will switch again.

I boycott WalMart and China. By boycotting China, there is nothing much I can buy at Target, anyway, so I'm just supporting their pharmacists.

11. Costco Has A Mail Service....
My ins. wouldn't do it because I have to use theirs (MedCo) but most insurances will do it. My parents get theirs there and it's super easy. They send you reminders to renew and it comes right to your mailbox, takes away a nasty errand!

13. Walgreen's policy
I wondered if they still had a pharmacist on staff who would fill contraception prescriptions. Here's what I found at the Northwest Herald site.
"Birth-control battle rages on
Sep 16, 2005
Walgreen policy states that pharmacists can refuse to fill prescriptions to which they are morally opposed, except where state law prohibits, but must take steps to have the prescription filled by another pharmacist or at a nearby store before the customer leaves, said spokesman Michael Polzin."
http://www.nwherald.com/MainSection/local/294149276030885.php

I'd like to know if this is a true statement of their policy.

When I Googled around for the Walgreen's policy, there were articles saying that CVS also allows pharmacists to refuse contraceptives. Pfui.
