How to secede without really trying.
You know, it occurs to me that we could deny oxygen to the republican party if we became separatists and developed our own currency or barter system and refused to deal at all with Conservatives. We could throw parts of their economy into chaos.

My inspiration for this is the NYC restaurant which recently refused service to the Bush twins.

1. Symbol for dem. business
Someone on another thread (sorry, didn't save link) suggested dems adopt a symbol to post on their store fronts/business advertising just as fundies use their fish symbol.

2. I'm actually working on one
just a blue silhouette of the US, with "Buy It!" written in white type across it. The exclamation point would be made into a check mark (It would be compatible with the "Not Buying It" slogan of the boycott campaign).

3. The NW has several very popular "Barter Faires". One example
is the Oregon Country Fair. People barter all kinds of goods at these events.

These events are really great fun and conservatives often seem to find themselves out of place in this type of liberal, tolerant, and free fun loving family atmosphere.

The administrators of these events change over time, but they are very talented coordinators and would be excellent references for beginning an alternative economy.

Some truly amazing folks up there that have dealt with bureaucratic headaches and conservative political and legal opposition and learned the ropes.

Rainbow Gatherings also have a barter circle. Barter is the accepted form of exchange for goods and services and the use of currency is discouraged because "it is not legal".;)
