Branding the movement: please post your names and slogans
Edited on Mon Nov-15-04 10:52 AM by Jen6
for the campaign:

Since we’ve found that “Starve the Beast” has been claimed by the RW anti-tax movement, we need new options. Myself and others have suggested “Not buying it” as a contemporary name/slogan. We’ve got a creative bunch here; what do you think the movement should be called from this point onwards?

3. Yeah, I really like the "Not Buying It" slogan
We're not buying the RW's corporate and political rhetoric anymore, and to show it, we're not buying any of their products, either. :)

6. I kind of like "Not Buying It."
With a period, no exclamation point. Sums up my mood about a LOT of things going on in the world today. :)

8. I thought it might be nice to do a T-Shirt
With "Not Buying It". Printed on the front, with the names of hundreds of products and services intermixed Bush* lies printed in a large block-red type, of course. The back would say "Buying It"! white letters on a blue silhouette of the US, above a large blue block of Progressive products, services, ideas and "values".

Thought it would also be good to make up blue US decals with "Buy It"! written across them that we could give out to Progressive businesses, letting others know that they're one of the good guys!

12. I also go with "Not Buying It"
Here are some that I came up with, but they aren't as good.

"Power in Purchasing"
"Buy Blue"
"Why Support Your Enemy?"
"Don't Support the Rich"
"Buycott Dems, Boycott Repugs"

I guess some are kind of lame.

13. okay
I just posted on a GD thread, and mentioned this idea, and linked to the group. I seem to be more inclined to "People before Proft" which I picked up from Naomi Klein's No Logo book.

I like Not Buying It! but for me, at least, it's a little less accurate. I do buy stuff. Not a lot, and mostly food, but I do engage in some consumption. People before Profit works better for me, because I don't actually want to destroy corporations, just rein them in, make them accountable to people, and reduce the greed-consumer relationship in society.

:hi:

15. Open Markets - A Progressive Guide to Responsible Consumerism
I like Economic Underground too. It has a resistance movement kind of feel without the anger of "not buying it".

Plus, I think we have to think about attracting suppliers, businesses and companies to our movement as well as giving the bad companies notice of our intent. A progressive company or more importantly a more neutral company may not actively seek to gain the approval of a movement with "not buying it" as a slogan.

should have done that above....... but anyhoo.......

Open as in exposed, exposing the good deeds of responsible companies and the ugly face of the bad.
