Staples: A Hardcore Republican Company
Is there a "good" place to buy office supplies ?? I'm DONE buying things at Staples. the following article comes from the Dec 1, 2004 edition of the Boston Globe ...

source: http://www.boston.com/ae/books/articles/2004/12/01/romney_book_a_stock_item_at_staples/

On Friday, Staples will be attempting to breathe new life into sales of the governor's tome with a book-signing at the Staples store in Brighton, which was the first store in the successful office supply chain.

The support goes both ways. In the mid-1980s, Romney helped Staples founder Tom Stemberg out when, as head of a venture capital firm called Bain Capital, the future governor poured mountains of money into the fledgling office supply business.

In the years since, Staples employees poured thousands of dollars into Romney's political campaigns. When he was running for governor, Romney held a press conference at the company's Framingham headquarters. After he was elected, Romney put Stemberg on his transition team on jobs and the economy. Romney spokeswoman Shawn Feddeman said the book signing was Stemberg's idea. She said the governor will be dropping by "during his lunch hour."

2. thanks ... we've gotta get rid of Romney in 2 years ...
what the hell were people thinking voting for him ...

of course, with 90% of the legislature in democratic hands, there's not much he can accomplish ...

Staples is headquarted about 5 miles from my house ... i looked into working there a number of years ago ... everyone told me to stay away ... they said it was a stifling work environment ... that Bain Capital mentioned in the article is an evil bunch too ...

we have an Office Max and an Office Depot on opposite sides of the mall parking lot ... no idea if they involve themselves politically ...

3. Geez. Now what?
I had heard that Office Depot and Office Max were both bad. Now Staples too? Oi.

Time to look for a local office supply place. They're out there, you just have to find them.

4. Here's An Office Supplier That Gives To Progressive Causes
It says they've gone from just the SF area to "nationally..." Hey DUers who order office supplies for your businesses, they're definitely worth a try!!

And yet ANOTHER plug for Costco -- they also deliver office supplies. I buy all our school supplies (printer paper, lined paper, notebooks etc etc) there in bulk in August and we have enough for the whole school year.

7. Rats. I really like office supply stores. I will suffer for this.
Costco is a forty minute drive for me, but it's worth it. I'm going to join Costco and stop going to Staples, Office Max, or any of the others.

8. YOU ROCK!!!
Isn't there any kind of indie type stationery store by you?

The problem with Costco (not always a problem though) is you can't buy 20 pencils, you gotta buy 100 pencils.

I've kind of gotten used to it though because I love not running out of stuff we use every day (toilet paper, pencils, cereal, dish soap, etc.)

Last year I did a major de-cluttering of the house and displaced a lot of stuff we NEVER used with stocks of every day stuff.

9. costco is a great place for office supplies
Their prices are awesome (especially if you are looking for a new printer, ink, etc...much cheaper than Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, etc).

I'm not sure how Office Depot leans politically, but they treat their employees like shit (I used to work there, unfortunately :puke: ) so I never go there anymore.
