Doing promotion...I think we've talked about this, but I don't remember...

When did you get signed? I don't remember that, is this something new? If so, congrats! The journey is just beginning and getting signed is probably the EASY part ;-)

4. Before we ever met Beet. That was my life before 9-11

I was most active in the industry in the 90's. I played as a bass player on tour for a lot of signed bands. I got a couple of bands I started signed and did a couple of demo deals with labels as a solo artist. I worked as a ghost writer for some really huge yet pathetic acts which I will not name in the late 90's.

I worked as a publicist and A&R scout for a couple of labels as well. After 9-11 the whole industry just lost it's appeal. It seemed trivial already as I was being hired more and more to write and record music for acts that sucked ass instead of being asked to make records with good music but 9-11 made me lose all interest in dealing with that shallow crap anymore. I don't ever really talk about those days anymore so when I noticed there was a music forum here I thoght I would see who else out there is a refuge from the LCD music biz, lol.

I do work with Michael Kane's band CLARITY:

as manager/adviser but his music is very connected with the politics I am interested in and we are not really dealing with industry douche bags, just the Indy scene and political groups.

Got tired of the bullshit, the backstabbing, and having my neck stepped on...That's why I got into non-profit...None of that and doing good, noble work...

You know, it's funny, I have only ONE friend who I still keep in touch w/ who is still in the industry and that's my old guitarist...Actually, we just jammed together this past weekend! Scientists are much cooler to work with though! That's why my bass player is a microbiologist by day! ;-)

8. I bailed mostly because the product has gotten so much worse.
You would think that some one was intentionally taking all the creativity out of music and culture from the downward trend in quality of pop music/culture.

Kinda. Yes the real ass fucking for the artist starts after they get a record deal, lol. I got signed more than once but never had a hit of my own. I did get few of one of my bands songs into soundtracks for some popular movies. But no hits.

6. Yeag, played bass with a band that was signed...
but that was after their 1st LP. They got dropped after I was in the band. Not my fault. haha The label just didn't feel that they were going to be making big money. I stayed with them for 3 months because they moved to NY and I wanted to stay in San Fran.

The audition is one I won't forget though. I got there and they just started playing songs. They told me the keys 1st, thankfully. I have sat in with bands at gigs that didn't. Nightmare. After the session, about an hour they asked me if I wanted to join. that blew me away. It had never happened before. That has never happened since.
