Yes, it's true. After 10+ faithful years of service, through the recording of 1.5 CDs, countless gigs, and several different practice spaces, I'm retiring my black Fender Mexi Stratocaster.
I took it out of storage a couple weeks ago, and because of my humid basement many parts of the hardware have rusted. I'd need to spend at least $200 to get it into playable shape. Plus, I wanted to install a Roland GK synth pickup, which is another $200 at a minimum. That's $400 on a $200 guitar (at best).
So, I decided to get me one of the new
Godin Freeway SA guitars
It's got the Strat's good looks, but with two humbuckers in the neck and bridge position, respectively. Also, like many of Godin's guitars, it's got a very good built-in 13-pin synth pickup, custom made especially for Godin. Their synth pickup is world-famous for its incredible tracking ability and dynamics.
All that for only
$599 from my local ma-and-pa guitar shop. You gotta hand it to those Canadians.
If this guitar is anywhere near as good as my Godin ACS SA, I think I'll do alright.
